Summary: Across seven states, you go searching for a man who saved your life. You have to thank him for doing so, because you wouldn't have been able to continue your life otherwise. Now, with the money to do so, you go on a road trip to find him, and you find him under unexpected conditions.

As you pass into Kansas, your mind wanders to why you're here. This is the seventh state you've been to in two months. You know who you're looking for, but you don't know what to look for at the same time.
You'll know it when you find it; you have to.
While on this extended road trip across the country, you've weaved in and out of countless towns in search of someone specific. You know he exists, but you don't know anything about him. Not even his name. Just what he looks like. Locals can't help you because you don't know what to tell them, so you wander around in hopes you'll find who you're looking for.
The only thing you know about this man is that he saved your life, and you have to thank him. Because of him, you got to graduate from college. Because of him, you got to see your sister get married. Because of him, you got to grieve your mom when she died.
He deserves to know how grateful you are to him.
Kansas will hopefully have what you're looking for. You're praying it does because you're running out of your savings. Everyone was shocked to find out that you were taking this road trip. You quit your job and didn't renew your apartment lease because you had no idea how long you would be gone.
Storming season is upon Kansas, so the rain is coming down hard. You're driving in the part of town that's desolate, so there aren't a lot of streetlights around. Your headlights work hard to try and light the road ahead of you, but it's hard to see through the dim lighting.
As you're driving, your car stutters seconds before the check engine light comes on.
"No, no, no, no," you mutter.
You try to push through to at least the next town, but your car has other plans. It stalls in the middle of the street. Luckily, you're able to pull over onto the shoulder so you're not in the way of oncoming traffic. You turn off the car and try to turn it back on, but it doesn't start. Fuck. You take out your phone and laugh when you see no service.
"Of course, there would be no service. Looks like I'm walking."
Thankfully, you have an umbrella in here, so you grab what you need before getting out of the car. You're not sitting here waiting for someone to kill you, so you figured you could walk until you see a gas station or something. They'll definitely have a phone you can use, or maybe service will come back once you walk away far enough.
You walk in the direction you were heading since there isn't anything behind you for miles. As you walk, you check your phone for bars. No such luck. Kansas is a beautiful state, but there are a lot of open and desolate areas that people can get stranded in if they're not careful.
Hence, you.
After an hour of walking, you come across what looks like an industrial building. It looks rundown and abandoned. The walls are high, so you can't see what the inside looks like, but it's probably the same. You might have to keep walking until you find something else.
As you walk past the building, you stop when you see a sleek and shiny black Impala. You walk over to it and touch the smooth frame, admiring the hell out of this classic car. Wait a second, you've seen this car before; you know it. It's in the back of your mind, but you can't remember where you might have seen it.
