Summary: I used to live each day as if it were my last. I never allowed myself the comfort of having someone to go home to. Until her. She makes me want to be a better person. I just had to fool around and fall in love.

Author's Note: This is based on the song Fooled Around and Fell In Love by Elvin Bishop. This is entirely Dean's POV. Any and all comments are greatly appreciated! <3

I must have been through about a million girls

I'd love 'em then I'd leave 'em alone

I didn't care how much they cried, no sir

Their tears left me cold as a stone

The restaurant is busy as I wait for my food to arrive. I ordered pickup since it's faster than dining in because I am eager to get home. It's been a long fucking day, and all I want to do is lie in bed and enjoy this food.

I don't have a lot of things downloaded on my phone, so instead of playing some useless game, I opt to people-watch instead. That's usually more interesting than a game. I lean against the counter and face the large windows at the front of the restaurant. People pass by without glancing over, but there is one couple across the street by a coffee shop.

The girl is crying. Well, she's trying hard not to. The man is comforting her by running his hands over her arms, and she pushes him away as he disgusts her. I can only imagine what they're talking about because I've been in his shoes plenty of times.

That man used to be me. In fact, I was in his shoes not that long ago. That man is breaking up with that woman, and he is going to go off and find another, while she is left broken by his words. I'm not proud of my past, but I own it. It's a part of who I was, not who I want to be. Yeah, I can get women, and yeah, I've had a lot of fun with them.

Life on the road doesn't allow for many personal relationships, especially with other hunters. I found comfort where I could take it, and I had to break hearts in order to make room for the new. It sucked, but what else could I do? I had a job to do, and I didn't have time to dedicate my time to someone when my brother needed me.

As harsh as it sounds, that's the truth.

It's different now. It's just not enough anymore. It's not what I desire anymore. I'm getting older, and I need to start thinking of my future now that I have one. With Chuck gone and Jack as God, I can write my own story. I can choose who is in my life and what I do with it.

"Dean Winchester?"

I perk up when I hear my name, and I accept the food from the employee. I turn back to the window, but the man is gone. The woman is left to pick up the pieces her ex broke. I feel for her, I really do. Before, I didn't get it, but I do now. I'd be devastated if that happened to me.

I leave the restaurant and start the walk back to the Bunker. I could have driven, but I enjoy the solitude. It's nice just to be alone every once in a while.

It used to be when I'd see a girl that I liked

I'd get out my book and write down her name
