I sat in my room with the copy of Dracula that I'd brought with me to the coffeeshop, and went on my laptop. I sighed as I went onto iTunes and put on my after-work playlist. What exactly had I done wrong to send him running out like that?
Suddenly, my roommate, Joy, knocked. "Josie?"
I sighed and flopped down on my bed. "Come in." She walked in, her hair in two braids. "You look like Wednesday Addams like that."
"Jos...what's wrong?" She sat down next to me. "You don't seem like yourself."
I laughed. "You're just hungry and confused why I haven't cooked you anything."
She thought for a moment. "That's a part of it, but I do actually care about you, Jos. So what's wrong?"
I sighed. "I met a really cute guy at the bookstore."
She pursed her lips. "Not seeing a problem here...."
I laid down and tugged at my shirtsleeves. "He asked me to coffee, and so I went." She looked at me as though I was crazy. "He ran out in a hurry at the end. Like he was disgusted by me...I spilled coffee on him."
She stifled a laugh and then frowned. "I'm sorry...that's not funny. Forget I laughed."
I sighed. "I'll go make some dinner."
As I got up, Joy grabbed my copy of Dracula and began flipping through it. I walked into the kitchen and began cooking, deciding on some pasta and meatballs.
I turned off the stove and put the food on plates for the two of us, and then Joy came in, a sly smirk on her face.
"Cute guy wants to see you again."
I looked at her suspiciously. "You're full of lies."
She shook her head and handed me my book. "I'm not joking. Look at the page I dogeared."
I sighed and flipped to the page, my eyes catching a small piece of paper folded in half. I pulled the piece of paper out and gasped, seeing the words scrawled on it.
'Sorry I have to cut this date short—coffee Thursday evening?' After that was scrawled Michael in all capital letters and a phone number.
