Nash looks at his phone, he's going to call Anastasia even though he doesn't want to. He wishes he didn't have to, he wishes that he could be honest with his parents, that they could embrace him and Cameron as a couple. But he's scared to lose his siblings so he sits next to his boyfriend with his phone in his hand hoping that it doesn't get complicated. He hopes what his mother said was true, that it's just for the girl to make friends and that's it. Nothing more.
He presses call and lifts the phone to his ear, he also hopes that she doesn't pick up and that he could just tell his mother that he tried but she didn't answer.
"Hello," a light female voice answers and Nash bites his lip, he now hopes that she will decline hanging out with him and Cameron.
"Hi, this is Anastasia? It's Nash, my mom gave me your number and told me you're new to the city. I was just wondering if maybe you would like to go out to brunch with Cameron and I." Nash says in a friendly tone, he does want to make the attempt seem genuine but he is really hoping she says no.
"Hi, Nash. I'd love to meet you for brunch, my mom let me know that you would be calling." She replies and the happiness is clear in her voice, Nash grits his teeth because her reaction doesn't lead Nash to believe that it's just as friends.
He can already hear his mother talking to her mother, telling her how her son is single and how they'd make a great match.
"We can meet you at a restaurant called Nifty Fifty's, it's an old school diner on Broad street." Nash says, keeping his tone friendly but in reality he is annoyed. "Like around 11?"
"Yeah! 11 seems great! I'll meet you there. I... uhm, your mother sent mine a picture so I'll be able to find you," she replies and after saying their farewells they hang up.
"She sounded extra excited, and not in a 'I'm going to make new friends' kind of way." Cameron says lowly, he's annoyed as well. He's probably more annoyed at Nash because to him there's a clear way to avoid situations like this. Cameron knows that the longer Nash stays single, the more his mother will try to set him up with dates. He knows it's not done with malicious intent, she just wants Nash to be happy but she has no idea that he already has someone to be happy with.
"Cam..." Nash says softly because he knows what is going through Cameron's mind and he really doesn't want to fight about it again because the outcome is the same. They'll just end up mad at one another.
"I'll get ready to go," he mutters and stands as Nash looks helplessly on, knowing that the one thing that will make the situation better is the one thing in the world that he can't do for Cameron.
He runs a hand through his hair and sighs loudly. "Why can't things be easier? Fuck!"
Cameron has minimal conversation with Nash as they drive to the diner but he puts on a happy face when they enter the diner and grab a table after seeing that there isn't a girl sitting alone in the diner.
A few minutes later the door bell dings and Cameron looks up automatically. The girl standing at the door is stunning, she has blond hair and beautiful, luscious lips that likely drive any heterosexual man wild. The girl will clearly not have any issues making friends and it's definitely a set up.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" He mutters, Nash has his eyes on his menu and misses Anastasia's face fall when she spots Nash sitting next to Cameron.
He looks up at Cameron's voice and raises an eyebrow because he's thinking the exact same thing that Cameron is thinking.
"Babe," he whispers but the look Cameron gives him makes him shut his mouth. Anastasia walks up to them and slides into the seat in front of them.
