Cassie’s POV
When we got back and were inside, Stef declared that we all go and play some tennis.
“We should play doubles.” I suggested, Stef nodded at my idea.
“We have to wait for Sarah and Josh though.” Izzy acknowledged.
“Where are they?” Liam asked.
Stef and I looked at each other and immediately thought the same thing. Little did we know that that didn’t actually happen as we thought it would.
They came back about five minutes after we did, and they were really quiet.
“So,” Sarah began. “What are doing now?”
“Well we were thinking of going to play some tennis down at the courts. We’ll play doubles.” I explained.
“Ok.” Sarah awkwardly side stepped away from Josh. “Let me look substantial then.” And rushed into her room.
“What was that all about?” Stef whispered to me.
“I dunno.” I answered, looking over at Josh. He sort of just stood there, fidgeting around.
“You think he kissed her?” Stef asked.
“No way. She would have been over the moon, and she really wasn’t in the mood for all the commotion of being kissed for the first time, and her ‘trust issues’, and shit.” I responded.
“Right.” Stef noted, going back into the kitchen to get a glass of water.
When Sarah reappeared, she was in stripy blue and white shorts, her panda tank top and white volleys. “Ok, I’m ready.”
“Cool. Where are the tennis rackets kept?” Niall asked.
“Out in the shed.” Sarah stated.
We all ran out and then realised that the door was locked. We looked back up at the house, and there was Sarah, standing in the doorway, holding the keys. She walked down at a slow pace, just to agitate us.
Stef’s POV
When she finally unlocked the door, she began to pass out the tennis rackets, then we ran out of those, she passed us some of the squash rackets. We only just had enough. Sarah found some tennis balls in the back corner of the shed and threw them out to us. We eventually made out way down to the tennis courts.
“Ok, partner up.” I commanded. We all went to the most obvious partner, except Niall ended up being partnered up with Sarah W. She looked at me like ‘why me?’, and she blushed so hard when he had to show her how properly hit the tennis ball. That also meant that Izzy and Harry were on a team. Harry wanted to with Cass but...it didn’t happen.
Cass and Zayn were on a team, Louis and I, Liam and Maryanne, Sarah was a tiny bit more hesitant about being with Josh, and when I looked at her, she gave me a tired sad look. “Tell me later.” I whispered to her as I past her to the other court. But they ended up being together and then Sarah and Niall and Izzy and Harry.
There were six teams, so we would only need three courts. “Ok, we’ll play Sarah and Josh first.” I stated. Sarah gave me the look from where she was standing and I couldn’t help but laugh. “Sorry.” I apologized as I laughed. She rolled her eyes and stood opposite me on the court.
Sarah’s POV
As Stef served, I felt like I couldn’t do anything. I went to hit it anyway. I ran straight into Josh. It felt like my nose was broken. I didn’t know if was bleeding or not.
“Sarah?” He shook my shoulder. I came back into reality sitting on the tennis court, with everyone standing around me.
“Yeah?” I asked, looking up at him.
“I really don’t think tennis is your kind of game.” He grinned.
“Not doubles anyway.” I smiled. He helped me up.
“How long was I out?” I asked looking around. As I got to my feet, my legs shook and my knees went weak, so I fell right into Josh.
“Wow.” He exclaimed catching me, just before I hit the ground. “You weren’t out at all. You sort of just sat there, not saying anything, we were worried that it was brain damage but decided to wait it out.” He explained, standing me back up.
“Thanks.” I said as I stood up straight this time.
“That’s ok. You need to rest though, you ran straight into my shoulder.” He rubbed the part of his shoulder that I ran into.
“But then Stef and Louis won’t have anybody to play against.” I whinged.
“I’m sure they’ll cope.” Josh replied, tonelessly.
“But I wanna play!” I was being a little kid now, throwing a tantrum.
“You hit your head. If you’re lucky, I might take you for a walk.” He sneered. Immediately, I shut up and looked at him, making a mental note that he was going to kiss me. Not that I didn’t want him to, it was just that I was still being a coward, and a baby.
Cassie’s POV
When we finished playing, we all strolled back down the road to the house. When we had put all our equipment away and went inside, Sarah and Josh were nowhere to be seen. Stef looked at me from where I was in the kitchen and had that conversation with our eyes.
“What are you doing?” Zayn asked as he came and sat down at the bench.
“Talking to Stef.” I replied, not looking over at him because Stef and I hadn’t finished talking. “Oh. Right now, I need to actually go and talk to her.” I flashed a smile at him and went out the back door and Stef followed.
“He’s so kissed her by now.” Stef predicted.
“I dunno.” I shrugged my shoulders. “She seemed really...annoyed and agitated by him earlier.”
“That’s because he knows like everything about her.” Stef rolled her eyes. “No thanks to you.”
“You know it was an accident, and she does actually like him, she’s just got her stupid ‘trust issues’.” I quoted.
“I don’t think my trust issues are that stupid thank you very much.” Sarah uttered as she came around the side of the house into the backyard where Stef and I were talking.
I looked over at her and saw Josh coming around behind her. She looked so mad at me. “And FYI, he didn’t kiss me.” Sarah stormed off inside.
Josh looked at Stef and I, to Sarah and back. He didn’t say anything but rushed inside behind her. I looked over at Stef. “You were right.” Stef muttered, going inside, also.
