Sarah’s POV
I was right, and extremely tired. Then I realised that I didn’t know the seating plan for the plane. “Hey, who’s sitting where on the plane?” I asked, causing them to all look over at me.
“Well, when I booked your tickets, you and Josh were...” I saw Josh turn away at this. “You two were an item, so you are sitting with him, he’s got the window seat, I hope you don’t mind, then you’re in the middle and Niall’s to your right.” Louis explained. “I’m in with Stef, she’s got the window, I’m middle and Harry’s next to me. We are seated behind you guys. And then in front of you three, Cass, Zayn and Liam.”
I just nodded. We were considered an item? Josh and I? I looked over at him and saw that he was already staring at me. I blushed an looked away. Of course I still cared. I’m the softy. I couldn’t let anyone fall further than they needed to. But somehow, I think he’d managed to slip out of my grip. I knew I could be harsh sometimes, but he’d left me(as Taylor Swift would say) lying on the cold, hard ground.
I dismissed these pessimistic thoughts as the loudspeaker came on. It said our flight was boarding. I looked around the seating area for our flight. We were only going to Queensland, only about five other people were catching the same flight as us.
As we sat down I got the usual tightness in my stomach. I hated flying. I was always so paranoid about it. As the air hostess came to demonstrate what to do in emergencies, I watched very carefully. I had to know what to do. Then I read and re-read the emergency manual. I started counting my breathes. I felt the plane start to move. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7... ‘What am I doing it’s not gonna help?!’ 8, 9, 10, 11... I looked around frantically. ‘Why am I so nervous?” 12, 13, 14...
“Sarah.” I heard somebody calling my name and snapped back to reality. It was Josh. He looked at me expectantly.
“You know how I’m afraid of drowning, well I hate flying.” I looked down and started to play with the hem on my top. His hand reached across and stopped my hands from moving.
“It’s ok. The plane just has to take off. The air pressure is gonna change, so your ears might hurt a little-” He tried to explain.
“I know what happens, I fly enough, but I just hate it.” I cut him off. He removed his hand from my hands and looked out the window. I gave a side glance to Niall who was quite content with his music. By now we’d passed the whole air pressure changing thing, so I just relaxed and got out my iPod. I put on my music and settled down for some sleep.
“Sarah. Sarah. Sarah.” I was woken up to a view of Queensland airport. Niall was shaking my shoulder. It was about six am. I noticed my iPod had been put away in my bag and that my chair had been adjusted so that I was a tiny bit more comfortable. Josh gave me a dirty look and I refrained from looking at him.
Be got off the plane to a fairly quiet airport. “International flights this way.” Harry motioned. We all followed. We had to sit around for a while, about an hour or so.
When we finally got onto our next plane headed straight for Manchester, I settled in a bit more. It was the same seating as the last trip and I was just silent. Niall had his music way to loud and Josh was just looking out the window. I wondered what he was thinking when I felt the plane jerk forward. Next thing I knew I had his hand in mine squeezing it so hard his knuckles were white. “Sarah. It’s just some turbulence, it’s a little windy that’s all.” He reassured me. I let go of his hand and put my music in.
‘Only twelve more hours.’ I thought to myself and prayed that there was no more turbulence.
I must have dozed off again, but this time it was Josh who shook me awake. “Time to get up. We’re there.”
