Sarah’s POV
Thursday 4:00pm
I had my bikini and was putting sun screen on, and before I knew it, we were heading off to the beach. I held my surfboard under my left arm, towel over my right shoulder and glitzy sunglasses covering my eyes.
As we stood up on the top of the hummocks, I got my first clear view of the water. Royal blue and bottle green water rolled in with fair sized waves. The sand, flat and ran left and right as far as the eye could see. I began running down, nothing could hold me back now. I dumped my towel and sunglasses, before wrapping the ankle strap to my ankle. I picked up the board and ran down to the water’s edge. The water was cool and refreshing, I paused there for a moment and looked out at the horizon, where the sea met the sky and I felt limitless.
I plowed through the water on my board, preparing to catch my first wave. The other’s were only just setting up back on the sand.
As the wave rolled up beneath me, I paddled forward and dropped into it. I shredded the wave and then, I saw the barrel right at the end. This wave was amazing, I pulled myself closer to the board as I entered the barrel , and caught my hand on the edge of the wave. I came out the other side just as it crashed down behind me. I held both my hands out triumphantly, and heard applause from the beach. I looked over my right shoulder and saw them all there, cheering.
As I pulled into the shore, I picked up my board. “Who’s turn is it now?” I asked offering the board up.
“Yeah, I’ll go.” Harry took the board as I undid the ankle strap.
“Have you ever surfed?” I asked, handing him the ankle strap, which he proceeds to put on.
“Once.” He explained.
“You mean that time-” Niall began.
“Not that time.” Harry argued.
“Good, ‘cause I wouldn’t call that surfing.” Niall joked.
“So you’ve been surfing more than once?” Sarah W. asked.
“Yeah. I suppose I have.” Harry answered, picking up the board and running out into the water.
He fell three times before admitting to defeat. He hair was unkept and askew, and he looked kind of pissed. “She killed you there.” Josh laughed, throwing Harry his towel.
I had been standing right on the shore the whole time, so when I glanced back, Izzy and Sarah had made this huge sandcastle, it was also a replica of the Disney castle.
“Wow.” Was all I managed to say. The wind blew sharply against my wet skin. “It’s cold.” I whimpered, picking up my towel and wrapping it around me. “I’m going back. I’ll start dinner.” I picked up my glasses, left the board, as Cassie wanted to have a go. I rushed up the steps and out of sight of the others. I ran back, as fast as I could. I didn’t want anything to stop me.
When I got back, I didn’t feel like I had done enough, so I changed into shorts, a tank top and my runners and set out again. I ran the whole way down to the creek, then up the back path. I ran out to the island and then back, I went right around the back and then took the main road home. That took about half an hour.
As I walked back inside, everyone was just sitting around. They all looked at me as I came in. “I thought you said you were going to start cooking.” Niall complained.
I shrugged and went into my room. I took my shoes off and just as I was about to get up, Sarah came and stood at my door.
Cassie’s POV
After Sarah went into her room(I’d already started cooking), other Sarah followed. I knew that something was up. Bad moods were limited with her, but still there.
I looked across the room, casually, and saw Zayn staring at me. When he saw me looking, he smirked and I blushed. I shook my head and laughed, turning back to the food.
When I was serving, everybody was loud and full of life. “Hey, guys. If we finish on time, we can go and see the sunset.” Maryanne explained to all of us as I sat down.
We ate quickly, and even though it was only late February, I put on a jacket as we set out for the beach again. The sun was still, clearly visible, and not even touching the horizon yet, but we could have stayed forever. I ran down the stairs into the cold sand and just ran around in circles. Everybody else did the same. We all looked like idiots, but who cared? Then we all sort of ran into each other and had this massive group hug. We stood there, and lived in the moment.
Gradually, we broke apart and began walking on along the beach towards the sunset. I peered over my shoulder, as I tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear. I turned back and Zayn was just casually strolling right next to me. I smiled as he looked over at me. “What?” He asked, as if not knowing. But of course he was joking.
“Nothing.” I said.
“Come on. I know you were going to say something.” He teased, bumping me on the arm.
“What if I wasn’t?” I asked teasingly.
“Oh. I know you were.” But this time when he bumped me, he grabbed my hand and slowed down.
