Niall’s POV
My palm’s were sweaty, and I was fidgeting in my seat as we all sat around the table for lunch. Wardy was opposite me and she kept catching my eye, but never holding her stare.
As I reached for the potatoes, her hand brushed over mine and she flinched, glanced up at me then down at her plate. She blushed like mad and pulled her hand away; waiting for me to take the potatoes, but I kind of just stared at her. I thought she was going to laugh at any moment now, but she just smiled, nodding toward me to tell me to hurry up and take some food. Neither of us moved though, eyes locked on each other.
Liam cleared his throat, pulling us both back into the moment and looking up at him. He gestured toward the potatoes and I passed them to him all the while watching Wardy breaking into giggles.
“So, when and where are you taking Wardy?” Stef asked, leaning in looking from Wardy to me. The whole table had quietened down now, looking at me intently.
“Umm...well...I can’t tell you now, that would spoil the surprise.” I looked at Wardy and she smiled.
“Aww, isn’t that cute.” Izzy sniggered. “I bet he hasn’t even decided a place.” She commented.
I was cut off before I could save myself. “Hey, he asked me out and that’s more than enough.” Wardy defended. I shut my mouth and shot her a questionable look. She gave me a shy smile and blushed. It still amazed me how mature she can be even though she was the baby of the group.
I return the smile and the room was silent.
Sarah’s POV
It’s supposedly after four seconds of silence that it get’s awkward, well it was more like after two seconds that it got awkward, then nobody said anything for a while and nobody did anything; of course my phone rang right at that moment - roughly ten seconds into the awkwardness.
I silently excused myself and rushed to answer it. “Hey mummy...yes...no...I’m fine...at a friend’s place...yes...tell her I said hi...ok...love you too...bye.” I hung up without much thought to it. My sister was just home from year nine camp and we haven’t spoken in a while, but they were currently at dinner with my grandparent’s, so that was kinda sweet.
As I was making my way back to the kitchen, Stef pulled me aside. “What was that about before?” She hissed.
Her question caught me a bit off guard, then I remembered what she was talking about. “I’m not allowed to tell you, or do you know?” I asked.
“Know what?” She asked, confused.
“Obviously not.” I began to drag her back out to the kitchen, but she pulled me back.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, but you are going to tell me right now!” She demanded.
“Shush...look, you didn’t hear it from me...but...”
“But what?” She hissed.
“But...Louis...he...was...going...to...umm...”
“Umm?”
“Umm.” I explained. “I’m not actually supposed to know-”
“Then how do you know?” She asked.
“Accident.” I raised my hands in defense.
“Look. Nobody’s dropped me any hints about anything lately, now you know something and I don’t; and if it wasn’t bloody obvious, it’s pretty important if you ask me. Now I want answers!” She nearly shouted. “And when Louis answered your question before: you didn’t even get to finish your question. He was shutting you up about something. But I don’t get how you knew that that’s what I was going to ask about?”
“Stef. I know you. And I’m telling you; you don’t wanna know...yet.” I finished and waited to hear her out. When she didn’t say anything, I concluded the conversation. “Come on, they’ll be getting worried about us. I promise you, you know all you need to know.”
