Stef’s POV
The silence was creepy now. I looked up, and if even one person was talking, it would have been perfect. But the tension was just, there. Cassie was shooting glares over at Harry every once in a while and Sarah was in one of her trances.
I looked over at Louis, who was looking tentatively down at his food. He dared not make eye contact with anyone now.
“Can...can we just get over it?” I pleaded quietly. Suddenly all eyes were on me. “I’m sorry that we aren’t perfect, but if we all face each other with our differences, we’ll never find the good things in life. Like...I dunno. Like how we all like the beach. Whether it be for the surf or the sand or even the sun. We all like the beach. Can we agree on that and just get over it?” I asked.
Everybody looked from one to another, and, just like that, all was forgiven.
“I think.” Sarah began almost in a whisper. “That we should just go home tomorrow.”
We all nodded. “And, I’ve invited the girls to stay the night at our’s tomorrow night.” Zayn put in.
It was truly amazing how we could just forgive each other without actually saying it.
Cassie’s POV
I wasn’t going to sleep in the same bed as Harry, tonight. And nobody was going to force me to either. But when he said that he was going to swap with Zayn for the night...it was just like...what? He wouldn’t do that for me...would he?
I flopped down on my bed. I was exhausted. Just as I was about to fall asleep, I felt the bed tip slightly, I half opened my eyes and saw Zayn sitting, with his back to me, running one hand through his hair.
“You know.” I mumbled. “You look ridiculously sexy when you do that.”
He turned and looked at me. “What?”
“Never mind.” I rolled over and looked at the other wall. Just gonna close my eyes.
I couldn’t get to sleep, no matter what I did, it didn’t work. I could tell that Zayn was still awake, he had his back to me the whole time though, so I wasn’t certain. Finally, I just gave up. I threw off the quilt and stomped out of the room.
Once out of the room I sort of calmed down. I raked my hands through my hair, trying to clear my head. Why? So many things were happening. And I couldn’t pick and choose on of them to actually pursue. No. Life had it’s own ideas. It wanted me to dive into the deep end and roll with the punches. Then I just sat down on the floor. There was a tiny noise. Talking. Somebody was having a conversation. I listened closer. Sarah and Josh. I smile at myself. They were happy. And cute together. I wonder what they thought of me and Zayn?
“Hey. I thought I heard you get up. Why are you sitting on the floor?” Zayn whispered, sliding into one of the cafe chairs.
“You were awake the whole time weren’t you?” I turned around and faced him, bringing my knees to my chin.
He looked up at the ceiling for a moment. “Yeah. I was.”
We sat there in a comfortable silence for a few minutes. “What were you going to say in the car on the way home?” I asked after a while.
“Something.” He replied.
“A little bit more specific.” I rolled my eyes. “And I know it was important because Niall freaked out momentarily before you said the other thing.”
He smiled and silently laughed. “Yeah. You’ll find out soon enough.” He stood up and suddenly, he was a lot taller than me. He reached out his hand, I took it, and he pulled me up. We went out into the backyard. The cold air soaked me like a shower, and soon I was hugging myself. I stood out right in the middle of the back yard and before I knew it, Zayn tenderly wrapped his arms around my waist. We both looked up into the stars.
