Making unfaltering eye contact with Mia, we brush past one another in the hallway. My attention is only diverted when my name is called. "Larkin!" I turn to see Emma, one of the girls from the lunch table, smiling at me.
"Hey," I answer, pulling a small yet very forced smile.
"What are you doing today?" She asks hopefully.
"Nothing, why?"
"I was just gonna ask if you wanted to go into town with a couple of kids after school."
"Yeah, sure," I respond, shrugging lightly.
