"Your aunt hasn't given up on you," He responds.
"Really? What makes you think that?" I laugh bitterly.
"Because you're her niece, and she loves you. Now why do you think she gave up on you?"
"That was the last of her brother's things, along with all of my mother's and brother's. I'm the last of kin in the family, so it's legally mine. Why would she ship it to me without as much of a note if she ever wanted to see me again? I know my aunt. She wouldn't send me something like that if she intended to see me again."
