Five years later
Inhaling deeply, Katherine stretched as far as she could to finish putting her sculptures on the selves. The ladder began wobbling but she steadied herself. "Come on!" She said to herself. "Almost done." She tried reaching again but then an idea came to mind.
She gave a slight jump and tapped a vase she made toward the wall. "Ther-" The uneven ladder tipped over. The next thing she remembered was falling down and screaming.
Katherine never hit the floor. She kept her eyes tightly shut but she could feel herself being held by someone. "I've told you doing that was a bad idea." A man's voice said. She opened her eyes and stared back at a pair of glowing red eyes.
A few strands of straight black hair hung in his face and the sun shining in from the window made his three lip piercings shine. "Sorry I didn't listen to you, Chris." She said quietly. He put her down. "Next time, Let me do that. If I would have fallen ins-" he was interrupted by another woman walking in. "Lemonade anyone?"
Katherine sighed. "Sure, mom." Her mom handed a tall iced glass to her daughter. "I wish I could offer you one, Christopher." She said. "You know I'd just politely refuse because I can't drink." A ringing noise sounded in the mother's pocket. "Oh that's the timer! Cookies are done!" She dashed out of the room.
"How'd you know when I fall?" Katherine asked. "Trust me. I've been pacing outside that door since you started." Chris leaned forward inches away from her face. "You should be thankful that you have a demon for a boyfriend." Katherine sipped on her drink.
"I am actually. I bet not a lot of people say they have one." Chris hummed in thought. "No. There's only six of us including myself." Katherine seemed surprised by that. "The rest of our kind mostly prefer to stay in hell."
"Have you ever been there?" She asked curious and taking another sip. "Once when I first turned. The bitch that I tried to confess my feelings tried to change the contract. I was given the choice of turning back to a human by the devil." Chris half smiled.
"Why didn't you change back?" Katherine asked. "I'd be dead three hundred years ago so I wouldn't be standing next to you right now, and on top of that-" he paused and shoved something into Katherine's free hand. It was a bouquet of dark red roses. "I wouldn't have these supernatural powers to impress you." Katherine smiled and hugged him. "Well I'm glad you've chosen to stay what you are." She whispered in his ear.
