Katherine wasn't surprised to wake up in bed all alone the next morning. She let out a huge sigh of relief when Chris texted her saying everything went well and didn't have to kill anyone which disappointed him. She got up and gathered clothes for today before taking a shower. Once she got dressed and applied some makeup, she hurried downstairs.
Her mother was washing the dishes and humming. "Good morning mom." Katherine said happily. "Morning." She replied. "I thought you'd sleep a little longer." Her mother added before turning the water off. She began drying a plate with a towel. Katherine poured herself a cup of coffee. "I wanted to but at the same time, I don't." She yawned then sat down. Her mother just quietly laughed and shook her head playfully.
Katherine sat down and blew on her coffee as an attempt to cool it down. She watched her mother who looked lost in thought. "What's on your mind?" She finally asked. Her mother sighed and turned to face her daughter. "I've done a lot of thinking last night." She said hesitantly. Katherine set her coffee down and wrapped her hands around the hot mug.
Katherine raised an eyebrow. "About?" She asked curious. "I've been thinking about moving out after you two get married." Her mother said with a small smile. Katherine's opened her mouth to speak. She didn't know what to say. "You know Shelby's husband passed away? She's having a hard time adjusting and I think it'd be good to have someone who went through the same thing?" Her mother said while she started putting dishes away.
"Well that's nice but you don't have to." Katherine said. "I'd like to." She said hopeful. Katherine sighed. This wasn't something she thought she'd ever hear her mother say. "I can't force you to stay here. Are you sure it's not because of me and him?" Her mother nodded no. "I'd just like to mostly help an old friend out." Katherine smiled.
The doorbell rang which startled both of them. "I'll get it." Her mother said before leaving. Katherine took a few sips of her coffee. After a minute, she heard footsteps. Katherine wondered what hat could be until she heard a familiar voice sounding closer.
"I have to say, that book you wrote kept me up all night." Her friend said. Gina placed the book on the counter. "You really read all that in one night?" Katherine asked shocked. Gina laughed. "Of course. You are still a better writer than me. You should definitely publish it." Her friend smiled widely.
"Thank you!" Katherine smiled proudly. "I really like how you put a lot of thought into what you've been through in the story." Her friend said. "I thought it'd help with dealing with everything." Katherine chose her words carefully.
"It's good for you. I thought I'd give it back to you so you can look into a publisher." Gina gently patted the book. "I think I will. What was your favorite part?" Katherine asked curiously and to know if she really read it. "You know how I feel about demons and dark magic but I did like how you wrote a complete opposite. He didn't seem like a bad guy after all and it made me think." Gina slightly tilted her head to the side.
"About what?" Katherine asked. "More like about who." Gina hummed. They all knew exactly who she meant. "I'm still researching but I'd need to know your new boyfriend's last name." Katherine's mind went blank. She didn't expect to tell the truth so soon. "That demon in your story sounds a lot like that guy you met." Gina smiled. Katherine opened her mouth to say something when the doorbell rang.
"Be right back." She hurried out of the kitchen. She was actually glad to leave the room. To her surprise, Chris was already inside and was heading up the stairs. "I thought you'd be back tonight." Katherine whispered lowly. He didn't have a problem hearing her. "I got what needed to be done sooner that I thought so why waste my time there?" He whispered back.
Katherine walked up to him and hugged him. "Gina's here, isn't she?" He whispered in her ear while wrapping his arms around her. "Yeah, she came by to drop the book off." Chris raise his drawn on eyebrow as he looked away towards the living room. Katherine took a few steps back and was glad she did. Gina had walked in.
