Katherine drove to the local Starbucks and felt more worried than before. The thought of not being home if and when he came back and something happened terrified her. If Chris turned out to be fine, Katherine would not hesitate to be angry at him. She parked and turned off the engine and stared at the doors. "Maybe this is a bad idea." Katherine exhaled sharply then slumped into the car seat.
She nearly jumped out of her skin by the sound of knocking. Katherine looked over to see her friend Gina smiling and waving. She was defiantly a lot more cheerful than usual. Her friend definitely had something to say. Katherine turned off the car and grabbed her purse after checking her phone one last time. No surprise that there was nothing.
After getting out of the car and locking it, she hugged her friend tightly. "It's been forever since I've seen you. How've you been?" Katherine asked. "Before you offer, I'm buying drinks." Gina squealed. "Why?" Katherine asked raising an eyebrow. Gina smiled more and lightly jumped up and down. She's never seen her friend this excited for as long as they've known each other. Something must be really good news.
Her friend literally pulled Katherine inside so quickly, she almost landed on the ground before gaining her balance at the last second. "Gina! What's going on?" They walked or rather, stumbled in. "I want to show you with better lighting." Gina said and held up her left hand. A beautiful gold band with a diamond shown like a tiny disco ball. It took her a few seconds to realize what Gina was so over the moon about.
Katherine squealed and hugged her friend as tight as she could. "Lee finally asked?" Gina smiled widely and nodded. "This morning, actually. I can't believe it!" Gina looked at her ring finger. Lee and Gina have been together since the beginning of high school and college so Katherine was more than thrilled to be one of the firsts to hear the news.
"Let's celebrate!" Katherine said loudly. The two rushed to get to line. They ordered their drinks and sat down. "So have you already started planning?" Katherine asked after they silently had a few sips. "No. We want to enjoy being engaged first." Gina said before taking a few more sips.
"I bet you're entire family are happy." Katherine took a sip. "I don't know. You're the first person I've told." Gina winked. "Really?" Katherine asked surprised. She thought they'd tell their entire family before friends. "I want to know if you'll be my maid of honor." Gina set her drink down with a happy smile.
Katherine's jaw dropped. "Oh! I would love to be!" She bit her bottom lip. Katherine had a quick thought but wasn't going to take it too seriously. "If I ever get married, you can be my maid of honor." Gina took a few sips of her drink. "Have you been going out with someone?" Katherine hummed in thought. She wanted to tell her friend. She nodded her head no. Katherine didn't think Chris would appreciate being exposed without his knowledge. Now was not the time but maybe the next time her and Gina were together.
"I feel bad. Here I am almost shoving my engage-" Katherine interrupted. "Don't. You have every right to. You two have been together forever." Katherine smiled. "I wish you two a long and happy marriage." Gina smiled at that. They went back to their drinks and thought silently.
After a few minutes of drinking coffee, Gina spoke. "Ok, completely off topic but have you met your boss Mr. Motionless?" Katherine bit her tongue that she had to lie. "No but I don't mind." Gina looked at her in disbelief. "You've worked with him for years and you and now your mother live in his home." Gina crossed her arms suspiciously. Katherine tried not to tense up to show how nervous she suddenly felt. Gina leaned in closer to whisper so only the two could hear.
Katherine looked down at her drink. "Are you scared to leave because of the disappearance of those two police officers along with that one guy and his wife from that company?" Gina asked concerned. "No. Not at all. It's just-" Katherine thought for a second. She sighed and decided to say at least something.
"It's complicated." She said st the last second. Gina nodded. Katherine's phone began ringing. "Sorry, I have to answer." She pressed the green phone button. "Hello?" She asked after seeing who was calling. "Katherine! Get home. Something's wrong with Chris!" Her mother was sobbing and sounded almost incoherent. "I'll be right there!" Katherine immediately said and got up. She didn't even bother saying goodbye as she ran out the cafe and into her car.

So.....I've been thinking about posting more than once a week! I'm still thinking about it and trying to write as much as I can so I wouldn't fall behind.
If you follow me on Instagram (littlemisscreatureofoddity), you've probably seen my post about taking a break after July 11. I want to spend a lot of my time trying to find another job because they'll be cutting hours at my current one and I can't afford to lose money (stupid bills). I also want to work at a place where I went to school for and that was cosmetology. Hopefully I can find something at Mac or Sehora or some kind of makeup/salon store.
I don't know how long I plan on being gone from social media and on top of that I'm putting all of my artwork to the side to focus on looking for a better opportunity. It'll probably be two or three weeks and definitely not longer than a month.
I'm also seeing Motionless In White this Tuesday in Rockford. Anyone going to be there? 😊
