Katherine walked down the stairs hours later and saw that everything was spotless. The maid must have been there and already left. Chris told them he's put a spell on the maid to make her work but forget the second she leaves. Inhaling sharply, she was just about to walk out of the foyer when the door knocked.
She went and answered and saw her friend standing outside looking worried. "Gina? What are you doing here?" She asked. "I thought I'd stop by to see how your mother is. You both sounded extremely upset." Her friend said softly.
"Come on in." Katherine said and stepped aside. She was thankful Chris now allowed visitors inside the house. Although only when he knew who and when was going to be in the house so he could hide. Katherine would just have to be very careful not to let Gina upstairs.
Gina quickly stepped in and looked around. "I still find this place creepy." She shuddered. "Alright, then let's go into the kitchen." Katherine led the way with her friend following. Gina looked at everything with an unhappy expression.
"Mom, Gina's here." Katherine said once they were in the kitchen. Her mother was brewing up some camomile tea as an attempt to calm her nerves. "Hello, it's been a while since I've seen you." Her mother smiled and hugged Gina. Katherine went and got three tea cups.
"How have you been? Is everything alright?" Gina asked the second they separated. "Oh I'm fine. It's just that-" Her mother looked at her daughter for help. "She thought she was hearing someone breaking in." Katherine said the most logical idea she could come up with out loud.
"Shouldn't you call the police?" Gina asked looking from her friend to her mother. "No. The alarms would've sounded. I'm just still a little spooked." Her mother said referring to her kidnapping. Katherine had to admit, her mother was a great actress.
Gina bit her lip hard. "It really pisses me off that they haven't caught whoever did this. I hope he rots in hell for doing something like that." Katherine's mother half smiled. "I'm sure he had his reasons." Katherine pressed her lips into a tight line. Gina looked from one to the other again.
"What's that suppose to mean?" Gina asked. The doorbell rang. "I forgot! I'm meeting Shelby for a card game tonight!" Katherine's mother turned off the teapot on the stove. "Here's some tea for you two. I'll call later, alright?" She hugged both of them then quickly rushed out of the room. Gina crossed her arms and looked st her friend clearly not believing a word they've said so far.
"Is she always out of the house now?" Gina asked. "Yeah. I guess after dad passed and being kidnapped, she's been enjoying life again." Katherine smiled. "I'm happy that she's herself again." She said happily before pouring herself a cup of tea then one for her friend. Gina was silent before asking a question Katherine wish she didn't have to answer.
"Do you want me to stay overnight?" Gina asked. Katherine tensed up and gulped nervously. She was already thinking of ideas on how to say no without getting her more suspicious. "You'll be all alone and I'm still worried." Katherine sighed. She doubt anything would happen but she had to try to keep Gina away from the house. "I'll be fine. Why don't you go home to your boy- I mean fiancé." Katherine smiled brightly.
"I would but he's working overnights now. It'd give me a piece of mind." Gina took the cup then a few sips. The thought of Chris waking up crossed her mind. She was sure he'd know if someone else was in the house by his supernatural senses. He wouldn't be happy knowing there's a stranger in the house and that Katherine disobeyed his order.
"Well alright, I guess." She said hesitantly. Gina raised an eyebrow. "You know I've never had a guest stay here that long." She said honestly. "It's not like that Motionless guy is going to find out. He's not even here." Gina said seriously.
Gina took a long sip of her drink before setting it down. "Speaking of. I still find it weird that you've worked for him for years and you still haven't met him." Katherine knew where this was going. "That you lived in his own home and haven't seen him while your mother was missing and worked at the same time." She continued.
"It's because Mr. Motionless understood that I would've had a hard time financially especially when I was all alone." Katherine said half honestly. Gina gently shook her head. "With what he pays you, you would have done fine." Gina said. Katherine sighed. "I really don't want to talk about this." She finally set her door down, hopefully.
"There you go again!" Gina raised both arms up before letting them fall to her sides. "For five years, you've said this! I feel like there's a lot you're not telling me. Do you not trust me?" Gina raised her voice. "I do trust you! Whatever happened five years ago, we just want to forget it and move on!"
Gina opened her mouth to say something. "Gina good things came out of whatever happened years ago. Mom never got hurt, I got a great job that I love, and on top of that I'm in lov-" Katherine stopped herself. Gina leaned forward with her arms crossed. "What were you going to say?"
"Nothing." Katherine pressed her lips tightly together to form a thin line." Gina sighed. "That just goes to prove it. We've shared so many secrets together and you don't trust me enough to tell me." Gina straightened up. Katherine didn't know what to say.
Gina began walking out the kitchen and heading toward the foyer again. "Gina. Wait!" Katherine followed after. "Unless you're going to tell me the secret right now, I'll be more than happy to hear it. If not, you're not invited to the wedding." Gina spat.
Katherine's jaw dropped in shock and anger. "You're being really childish, my friend. You know that?" Katherine raised her voice. "Then don't bother showing up." Gina put her hand on the front doorknob. "There's so much to tell you that I don't know where to begin."
Gina half turned around but didn't leave her hand off the knob. "Then tell me everything." Katherine stood there for a few seconds. "There's so much to tell you but I don't know where or how to start." She said again sounding defeated. Gina huffed then turned the knob.
Gina opened her mouth to say something when her phone went off. She read the message and sighed heavily. "Lee wants me to bring him something to eat. We'll talk about this later." She walked out the door. Katherine slumped down on the stairs fighting back tears.
