They kept you in the hospital for 2 weeks and you still haven't spoke a word. You couldn't eat. You couldn't drink. You see fear in (Y/F/N) whenever she looked at you. You're trying to speak again but it feels like everything is shit down in your mind. You see the world happening around you but you can't comprehend it. The room is too bright. The voices are too loud. The beeping of the machines are too high pitched. You think that you remember a nurse saying that your senses are probably hypersensitive. The sheets make you feel uncomfortable no matter how soft they are. The food smell drifting up from the cafeteria makes you feel extremely nauseous. Everything is making you feel horrible and there's nothing you can do.
That night Dan comes and visit you. He pulls a plastic chair up to the side of your bed. He takes your hand and starts to speak:
"(Y/N) please, I just need to hear your voice. I miss you."
You say nothing.
"You're my entire world."
Lies.
He lets go after a while. Then his phone rings. He goes to the corner of the room.
"Yes, I'm with her instead of you. I'm tired of you calling Christina. I don't love you anymore. I love her."
What now? Surely you're hearing things.
"Stop calling Christina. It's annoying. I'm devoted to (Y/N) now." He hangs up the phone.
No....this is a joke.
You try to rewire your mind. You need to speak to Dan. You try to remember how to speak again. How to see the world again.
"Dan.." You croak out.
He spins around at the speed of light. He runs over. Yes. Dan ran for something. That makes you feel amazing. He flops into the chair and cups your face in his hands.
"You're alive!!" He says. "Well...you have been but now you're like actually here...like you where here but who knows what was wrong inside...."
You cut him off by putting a finger to his lips.
"Shh... Calm down Dan it's fine." You say. Hardly recognising your voice.
You remove the finger and he leans over and presses his lips against yours. He kisses you for a bit and then pulls away.
"Would you like me to ring (Y/F/N) and Phil and have them come down?" He asks.
"Sure." You reply.
You really didn't want to deal with other human life forms at the moment but these are your friends. How could you say no? Dan dials up Phil and (Y/F/N) an tells them to get their bums down here.
He finishes the call and sits at the edge of your bed. He fiddles with the sheets. You tap ha shoulder and beckon him to come up next to you. You just need warmth. He scoots up and you carefully wrap your arms around him being careful with the IV needle. You know it will take at least 30 minutes for the others to get here no matter how fast they drive.
Dan plays with your hair and you keep your forehead against his chin. For the first time you can see again. You can see the world and what it's worth. The world isn't such a dark place that has turns that hold every one of your fears. You have Dan, Phil and (Y/F/N) and you aren't alone. You realise you're going to be alright. This is how you see again.
