Marvin's Room

Pilar's pov:

Pilar: Have a seat please. (saying with arms folded and sitting up in the bed)

Phyllis: is something wrong?

Pilar: well, I just saw an episode of "Back in the Day". you know, the show with Donnie Simpson. and uh, they had a segmen on you. and the craziest thing that they said, other than that you were in plenty of relationship, was that you were in a relationship with Marvin Gaye. and you know what was even crazier? he said that y'all were together up until 1983. now look... unless you broke up with him, then a day or month later, you went out and got pregnant by somebody, who had died the same way as Marvin, or my father was actually Marvin.

-Phyllis looked so shocked that this moment has finally come. telling her daughter about this was going to be so hard.-

Phyllis: okay, yes! your father is a Marvin.

Pilar: are you serious right now! you could have told me this when I was a child!!

Phyllis: I know. but I just didn't want you to love him. I hated that man so much. he was a cheater and a drug abuser. he had conceived other children while I was pregnant with you.

Pilar: so Nona Gaye is my half-sister?

Phyllis: (looks down) yes.

Pilar: and you know that I envy her. only because she gets to be his daughter and not me. well, that's what I used to think. UNTIL TODAY!

Phyllis: I couldn't let him have you. I jus couldn't sweetie. I remember that one time, he came home at 4 in the morning drunk. he had brung some girls home. about 3 of them. and he ran into my bedroom and told me that he wanted to have five-some. can you belive that? I told him no. so he pinned me to the bed and said that I had to do it. but I didn't want to. so he told me to get out of the room. so when before I could get up, he smacked my stomach. and I went straight into labor. (wiping tears)

-Pilar starts to wipe tear.-

Phyllis: I was only 5 months. blood came straight after the water had come out. he didn't care that you were coming. I drove myself to the hospital. we both were dying. and I brung you straight to this hospital. jus a floor above this one. and I had C-section. you were almost gone! THAT MAN ALMOST TOOK YOU FROM ME! (crying even more). I had to protect you from him. the media didn't know that I was pregnant, so they aren't looking for you. but if you want, you can tell the world who your father is.

Pilar: mommy! (still crying) I'm sorry.

-Phyllis gets out of the chair and goes to hug Pilar.-
