The Wedding: The Conclusion

-Day of the wedding-

-At Pilar's house-

Pilar: hey mom! you up early. (goes to the fridge).

Phyllis: yes! today is my special day. 

Pilar: it sure is. We need to be leaving at 9, so you have two hours. 

Phyllis: i will be ready. When will the chairs and things be ready?

Pilar: everything will be done while we are at the salon. 

-At Phyllis' House- -2 hours later-

Andre: alright yall! it is now 9am! time to go and get our haircuts. 

Richard: this is going to be a great day. 

Devante: it sure is. 

Dalvin: im excited for you. 

Richard: now do we have everything that we need for today?

Devante: yep! the rings, the suits. we've got everything.

Richard: alright. lets hit the road.

-3 Hours later- -At Pilar's house-

Malina: (comes into Phyllis' room) you look radiant.

Phyllis: thank you. so do you.

Malina: thanks.

Phyllis: are the kids dressed?

Malina: yes. Everything is going well. The food is done, the chairs are set up. We're just waiting on the people.

Pilar: (comes in) hey, the guys are here. 

Phyllis: what time is it?

Pilar: 12. so we have an hour left. People havent arrived just yet. do you need anything mom?

Phyllis: nope. 

Pilar: great.

-In Pilar's room-

Devante: hey baby. (kisses her) 

Pilar: you look handsome.

Devante: thank you. everything looks amazing. including you.

Pilar: thank you, green eyes.

Devante: wow! i havent heard you call me that in a while. But dont worry, imma give you the D when everybody leaves. 

Pilar: boy shut up.

-An hour later-

-In the kitchen-

Shaunte: alright mom, you ready?

Phyllis: yes of course. 

Pilar: wonderful.

-The music begins and Shaunte and Andre walk down the isle. Malina then walks down the isle and puts the flowers on the ground. Pilar then walks down the isle. Finally, it is time for the bride. Devante wraps his arm around Phyllis' arm and stands on the steps. Everyone stands up and takes pictures of them. They begin to walk down the isle and Richard sheds a tear.-

Richard: you look beautiful.

Phyllis: thank you.

-The Pastor begins the ceremony off with prayer. he then tells Phyllis and Richard to share their written vows with each other. Pilar looks around at the sight, and she thinks about her and Devante's wedding. its a moment that made her smile. Her daydream ends and she catches Devante smiling at her. She smiles back and then returns her attention back onto her mom and dad.-

Pastor: okay, Phyllis, repeat after me: I, Phyllis Hyman, take you, Richard Pryor, to have and to hold. to cherish and to love through sickness and health, for richer for poorer. 

-Phyllis repeats it and then the pastor tells richard to do the same.-

Pastor: now, place the ring on each other's hand.

-Richard places a sparkly band on her finger and Phyllis does the same.-

Pastor: with the power invested in me, i now pronounce you as husband and wife. you may now kiss your bride.

-They kiss as everyone stands up, claps and cheers.-

Pilar: alright yall! its time to party!!!

-Everyone begins to dance, drink, eat and socialize.-

Pilar: mom, dad. im so happy for you. (hugs them)

Richard: thank you. 

Phyllis: i want some cake. 

Pilar: mom, you just got married 15 minutes ago. give a couple of more hours.

Phyllis: well alright.

-They go in the house and grab something to eat.-

Malina: aye mom! you wanna play some cards?

Phyllis: hell yeah. (sits down at the table).

-Devante walks up to Pilar in the kitchen and grabs a plate.-

Devante: this was a success!

Pilar: thank you for helping me with the food.

Devante: no problem.

Pilar: thank you for everything. (kisses him)

Devante: you wanna go upstairs?

Pilar: no silly. you'll get your treat later. (giggles)

-2 hours later-

Malina: alright guys! it is now time for mom and dad's first dance! cue the music.

- "At Last" by Etta James comes on and Phyllis and Richard start to slow dance. They lock eyes and everyone stares at them.  Pilar stands with her sisters as they smile at their parents. Malina wipes her tears as everyone claps.-

-3 hours later-

-Everyone has left and now its just Devante and Pilar in the house.-

Pilar: today was a great day.

Devante: it sure was. (sits on the couch)

Pilar: you want some Mac and Cheese?

Devante: yeah, and some chicken too! 

-At Phyllis' House-

-Phyllis and Richard walk into their house, still in a party mood.-

Richard; we've got the wedding cake (places it on the table) now, we just need some music.-

-Richard turns on the radio and Al Green "Lets stay together" comes on. They start to jam and party, with no end in sight.-

Richard: you make me so happy.

Phyllis: i love you. i will always love you. 

-They kiss and then slow dance the night away.-

-At Pilar's house-

Pilar: (crawls on top of Devante)now that we're done eating. do you wanna, you know, go upstairs and like "Play"? (says playfully).

Devante: (plays along) i dont think we should. your parents might catch us. we'll be in so much trouble.

Pilar: please? we wont get caught. ill give you a special treat. 

Devante: a special treat?

Pilar: yep. ill give you some of my peach cobbler. (winks)

Devante: peach cobbler. that sounds good.

Pilar: do you wanna eat some? its nice and sweet. it tastes even better with vanilla ice cream on it. 

Devante: ill get the ice cream, you go upstairs.

-Pilar runs upstairs and Devante gets the ice cream and then runs up to the room. Lets just say, Devante enjoyed the food tasting lol.-
