Chapter 40: Mr. Kitsune?

Kagome and the others grabbed Shippo and headed to the closet house, Miroku's shrine. Miroku's guardian Mushin was cleaning Shippo's skin with soap and water as Kagome was dialing Shippo's father.

It went straight to voicemail,

"Mr. Kitsune, this is Kagome! Shippo has been hurt. We are taking good care of him at my friend's shrine. Please call me back when you get this!"

"No answer?" Miroku questioned.

"Nothing. Staright to voicemail again..." Kagome sighed.

"When my dad goes on his business trips, he never picks up. After school I was supposed to go to you guys and ask to be babysat, but then this happened," Shippo explained.

Sango bent down to Shippo's eye level,

"I'm so sorry my brother did this to you..."

"Your brother? You mean Kohaku? He actually told the other guy to stop," Shippo said.

Sango felt something inside of her. What was it? She started to tear up and turned away to face the wall. She felt happiness. Sango was so glad her brother was still the tender hearted kid that she once knew. But if that's the case, then why did he leave with him? Inuyasha still had nothing to say as he sat in the corner with his eyes directed out the window. It began to rain as Kagome walked over to Inuyasha and sat beside him.

"Inuyasha...are you okay? You haven't spoken a word since we found Shippo," Kagome inferred.

Inuyasha slightly moved his head, enough to face her,
"I'm fine."

Kagome stared into his eyes,
"Inuyasha."

Inuyasha stayed silent with the same expression,

"Whoever that was, he's gonna pay."

Kagome let go of him and he stared back out the window as it started to rain. Kagome frowned until she felt a buzz from her cell phone.

She frantically answered,

"Hello?"

"Kagome Higurashi?" they said.

"Mr. Kitsune?" she asked them.

"I'm afraid I'm not Mr. Kitsune. No, he owes us big."

"Who are you and where is he?!" Kagome demanded.

"They call me Hiten. I have him in my clutches. We aren't letting him go until we get his Shikon jewel shards," he answered.

Shippo overheard the name over the phone,

"No it can't be..."

"Please take care of my son," Kagome heard in the background.

"Mr. Kitsune, please tell us where you are, we can come and save you or call the police!" Kagome shouted into the phone.

"Enough of this. Monten, kill him." he said.

"No!" Shippo cried overhearing the conversation.

He snatched Kagome's phone and yelled into it,

"Dad no! Please you can't leave me! I love you Dad please don't go!"

"This is pathetic," Hiten said about to hang up.

"I love you son, forgive me," Shippo heard in the static filled background.

"Dad!" Shippo screamed with tears in his eyes.

The phone cut out.

The room fell silent as Shippo started to cry to himself. Inuyasha grew in rage and slammed his fist in the wall, picking himself up.

Inuyasha grabbed Shippo's shoulders,

"Where would your dad be? We can go to him right now! I won't let those bastards get away with this!"

"It's too late Inuyasha. The Thunder Brothers got him," Shippo whimpered.

"Thunder Brothers?" Miroku questioned.

"My dad doesn't know that I know this, he's been trading with them for awhile. I guess he didn't have what they wanted this time..." Shippo continued with a frown.

"But there's still a chance Shippo! Where would they be??" Inuyasha asked once again.

"I don't know..." Shippo answered.

Inuyasha gritted his teeth,

"Dammit!"

Kagome went over to Shippo and hugged him tightly,

"Don't worry Shippo, he's going to be okay..."

"Kagome, do you need a walk home?" Sango asked, trying to suggest to Inuyasha to get up and go with her.

He didn't move a budge.

Kagome lightly shook her head,
"Its fine. I'll see you guys tomorrow. Shippo do you need a place to stay? You're welcome to stay with me."

Shippo nodded and hugged Kagome's leg,
"Please..."

And with that Kagome and Shippo left Miroku's shrine and headed towards her home.

Kagome and Shippo kept walking along the sidewalk and heading towards Kagome's house. Clouds started scattering across the sky, covering up most of the stars at night. Kagome lightly frowned as she saw Shippo still crying. Kagome heard a rustling behind her and two men approached her.

"Sorry to bother you ma'am, but what is your name?" one of them asked her.

"Kagome...Kagome Higurashi. Do I know you?" she asked them.

"That's what we thought..."

Suddenly one of the men grabbed her arm aggressively and pulled her in closer to his face.

"Inuya-!" Kagome's mouth was quickly covered by a piece of cloth. She turned back and forth and saw that Shippo had disappeared. Kagome mumbled, trying to call out to him but before she could even try and look for him. Shippo gazed in horror behind the tree.

"I gotta tell Inuyasha!!" Shippo thought.

They kept walking with Kagome now in their clutches. Both of them snickering quietly.

"Sorry sweetheart, but you shouldn't have gotten involved. Nobody gets in the Thunder Brothers' way."
