Chapter 23: Long?

"Finally it's Friday!" Kagome thought with a smile as she started getting ready for school. She grabbed her uniform and slipped into it. Brushed her hair, teeth, and ate some breakfast. When Kagome stepped outside she saw Sesshomaru across the street holding a little girls hand. He held his briefcase over his shoulder on the left side, the girl on the other.

"Is that Sesshomaru? There's no way..." she thought.

"Whatcha staring at?" a voice asked her.

She turned to see Inuyasha was beside her, looking around. She grabbed him by the ear and he blinked out of surprise.

"Look!" she loudly whispered, pointing towards his direction.

Inuyasha looked to where she pointed and sort of stared vacantly at him.

"Sesshomaru?!" Inuyasha questioned his sight.

Kagome nodded as Inuyasha yanked his ear away from her grasp. They both stared in wonder at the fact that Sesshomaru was with a little girl.

"Does he always walk this way with her?" Kagome asked Inuyasha.

"He leaves earlier than I do. But I'm actually here early for once," Inuyasha replied.

"Yea you are, aren't you? What a surprise! I'm proud of you Inuyasha," Kagome laughed a little as she rested her head on his shoulder.

Inuyasha grew stiff with a pink color to his cheeks,
"Yea yea."

"Now! Let's go follow them," Kagome smiled at him.

"Follow them?"

"You mean you're not curious??"

Inuyasha looked at her,
"Yea I guess I sort of am."

They looked over to see Sesshomaru turn a corner.

"Hm? That's not the way to school," Inuyasha observed.

"Well...the way we take is much shorter. Actually now that I think about it...my brothers school is down that road," Kagome explained.

Inuyasha and Kagome followed Sesshomaru on the sidewalk, when he stopped in front of Sota's school.

"She must be a student there," Kagome assumed.

The girl waved at him and went through to the school,
"Bye Mr. Sesshomaru!"

"Goodbye Rin."

As Sesshomaru started striding away, Kagome had walked up to the middle school and peered over the wall.

"Kagome! Inuyasha!" A voice called.

Kagome wandered around and finally saw a figure walking towards her.

"Shippo!" Kagome smiled as he came up to give her a hug.

"What're you guys doing here?" Shippo asked.

"Just on the way to school," Kagome answered.

"Sis is that you?" a boy directed.

"Oh Sota. You're here early," Kagome observed.

As Kagome walked up to Sota to talk to him, Shippo went up to Inuyasha. He leaned against the wall with a lollipop in his mouth.

"So Inuyasha. How far have you gotten with Kagome?" he asked.

"Say what?!" Inuyasha twitched.

"Are you guys dating yet or not?"

"Psh of course not! What the hell are you thinking brat?!" Inuyasha retorted.

Shippo sighed and lifted his back pack higher up on his shoulders,
"Of course...Welp I'll see you guys tomorrow when you babysit."

Kagome came back to Inuyasha and they both walked away. She waved goodbye with a smile as Inuyasha was thinking to himself.

"Me and Kagome? That's crazy! As if I would-" he stopped his train of thought, feeling Kagome hug his arm with a slight shriek.

"Huh?! What's wrong?!" he asked in panic.

"S-sorry! I thought I saw something..." Kagome nervously laughed.

Inuyasha rolled his eyes and tried to conceal his very pink face.

Kagome faced Inuyasha,
"What's wrong?"

She slowly looked down to still see she had her arms wrapped around his. Kagome frantically let go and blushed lightly. A few minutes later they both looked up to see the schoolyard in front of them. Inuyasha and Kagome walked inside and were about to go to their separate classes.

"I'll be hanging out with Sango after school today so, you don't have to wait on me okay?" Kagome told him.

Inuyasha nodded.

"See you in Mrs. Taisho's!" she grinned turning her head to stroll off to class.

"Wait! Uh-" Inuyasha stopped as Kagome turned back around to face him.

"Yea?"

"We should take the long way from now on," Inuyasha advised.

"Really? How come?" Kagome wondered.

"Look! I...I just like walking the longer way with you okay!?" Inuyasha confessed with a pink tone to his cheeks.

Kagome couldn't help but smile wide at him, her heart beating,
"Me too Inuyasha..."

As she walked away Inuyasha couldn't help but wonder,
"What is this feeling?"

Meanwhile outside of school, Naraku snickered as he found another shard of the jewel.

"This is going better than I thought..." Naraku sneered.

"I still don't see why the hell we need these stupid shards," a voice said.

"Don't be an idiot Kagura. You know that if the jewel is whole it's worth a fortune. Not to mention the rumor of getting the one true wish..." Naraku explained.

Kagura looked away,
"I'm going to class. Feel free to waste your time doing this worthless task..."

Naraku forcefully grabbed her wrist and pulled her near him,
"Who said you could go?"

Kagura gritted her teeth trying to break free.

"You know you owe me. And you know that you also have no choice," Naraku said, slightly raising his voice.

"Damn you..." Kagura thought to herself.
