Chapter 38: Him?

Kagome and Inuyasha had met up with Naraku on their way back home and was surprised at his sudden appearance.

"Tell me. Now," Inuyasha demanded.

"Getting a little angered are we?" Naraku teased.

"Inuyasha don't let him get to you," Kagome said touching his shoulder.

Inuyasha stayed silent, waiting for Naraku to give him an answer. Naraku just stared blankly at him and his anger filled face. As the two switched glares Kagome could feel the tension between them, nothing was going to be able to cut through it.

"I did it," Naraku said.

"What?"

"Have you ever wondered why Kikyo despises you now?" Naraku questioned.

"I'm sure she doesn't despise him..." Kagome trailed off.

She clearly remembered their kiss and her words to him. How she said that she still cared for him and to not forget that feeling.

Inuyasha glanced over at Kagome and slightly frowned.

"She doesn't hate me," Inuyasha spoke.

"Either way, She doesn't favor you very much. I was the one who caused that," Naraku confessed.

Inuyasha stood silent.

"I was the one who tried taking the jewel away from her in the hallway. I was the one who wrote that letter to her, thinking it was you."

"A fake letter to Kikyo? She didn't tell me that..." Kagome thought to herself.

"Shut up..." Inuyasha mumbled.

"I was the one who got you two to split apart. You thought she left because of her dad? She asked and begged and pleaded for them to move, just to stay away from you," Naraku continued.

"I said shut the hell up!" Inuyasha yelled going in to punch him.

Kagome noticed his anger and tried to grip his shoulder to pull him back, but he was too strong,

"Inuyasha stop it!"

Inuyasha gritted his teeth, but stopped in his tracks. He was trying to hold himself back and the only thing that was, was Kagome's voice.

"Well that's all I had to say. Oh wait another thing," Naraku paused.

He turned around and started walking away,

"Don't end up like Ayame. I'm not afraid to send them on you too."

Kagome's eyes widened along with Inuyasha's as Naraku walked away and turned the corner. Inuyasha only grew angrier, he chased after Naraku until he turned the corner. Naraku had vanished. Inuyasha turned back around to see Kagome run towards him.

"Inuyasha are you-" Kagome paused as she saw him look away.

"He won't look me in the eyes. All he can see right now is Kikyo," Kagome thought.

Inuyasha suddenly pulled Kagome in and hugged her tightly.

She felt him hold her tighter as he finally whispered something into her ear,
