It was the next day and Kagome was walking to school when she saw Inuyasha ahead of her."Hey Inuyasha!" she shouted to him.
He turned around to face her as Kagome ran to catch up with him.
"Yea what?" he asked.
"Nothing I just wanted to walk with you!" Kagome smiled.
Inuyasha blushed and looked down a little bit, "Yeah sure whatever."
They were halfway to school and they haven't said a word to each other. The sun couldn't be seen past the puffy clouds in the sky. Kagome awkwardly blushed and held her bag handles tighter.
"What are we supposed to talk about?" Kagome thought alone.
"Do you think it'll rain Inuyasha?""Nah, we'll be fine," he said with confidence.
The sky started to get darker as they kept walking. Kagome took out her cell phone and saw she received a text from Sango.
"Hey Kagome...I caught a stomach bug last night, so I can't babysit that kid tonight, but it's wayyy too late to cancel! Would you mind babysitting for me?? You can keep the money?" She texted.
Kagome sighed and texted her back,
"Sure thing. But I can't do it alone ya know!"Kagome locked her phone and put it back in her side pocket, she felt water plop on her hand. Inuyasha and Kagome looked up and saw it started to rain. Kagome put her backpack down and searched for her umbrella.
"Hey what's taking so long?" Inuyasha scoffed.
Kagome stopped shuffling through it and turned to Inuyasha.
"I-i forgot it at home..." She stuttered in annoyance.
"What the hell? You didn't bring an umbrella?!" Inuyasha yelled.
"Well you were the one that said it wouldn't rain! But it sure is now isn't it!!" Kagome shouted back.
"Well looks like we're gonna get soaked," Inuyasha said with an attitude, looking up at the cloudy sky.
"But, but! School is still a ways to go! We're both going to be drenched by the time we get there!" Kagome slightly whined.
Inuyasha rolled his eyes,
"Well let's just keep going."After a few minutes the rain poured even harder, and thunder could be heard, all around them.
"Ah shit!" Inuyasha swore, seeing lightning through the clouds.
"We need to get under something!"Inuyasha grabbed her hand without hesitation and ran faster, going the opposite direction of the school.
"H-hey! Where are we going?!" Kagome blushed.
Inuyasha ignored her and kept dragging her through the rain. The rain kept on pouring down harder and harder.
After running so long and fast, Inuyasha had led Kagome to a giant tree in Central park, close to Kagome's house. The tree had a portion of bark missing on the front and little papers on a rope tied around it. As the two of them got under the tree rain continued to fall down from the sky.Inuyasha and Kagome panted under the tree all soaked in rain water.
"You okay?" Inuyasha asked her.
"Yea, I'll be fine, just wet," Kagome giggled lightly.
Inuyasha smiled gently as he took off his jacket and ringed it out along the roots of the tree. He paused and moved fingers along the bark with a faint frown.
"So is this tree special to you?" she asked him.
"I guess I mean it's just a tree," he said with a dishonest tone.
After he got most of the water out of his jacket he slowly lays it on top of Kagome's head.
"Look I know it won't really do anything now but, it helps at least a little bit..." he said with a tint of pink in his cheeks.Kagome blushed and gripped on to his jacket, warming herself up with it.
Kagome flipped out her phone and saw another text from Sango, it read,
"Have Inuyasha go with! oh and BTW it's raining make sure you have an umbrella with you."Kagome twitched slightly and realized something.
"Hey Inuyasha?"
He looked up at her.
"I just realized my house is nearby, do you want to dry off there?"
"Alright," he shrugged.
They both grabbed their backpacks and Kagome held Inuyasha's hand, running towards her house. Inuyasha looked back at the tree one last time and shook his head looking away.
After running to the house she dug for her key and opened the door. The two of them came inside and took off their shoes near the door. They looked around and saw that all the lights were out around them.
Mrs. Higurashi came rushing down the steps,
"Kagome sweetheart? I thought you would've made it to school before all of this," she said holding a flashlight in her hand.
Her mom shined the light near Kagome's face, seeing Inuyasha beside her, both of them shivering from rain water."Oh dear! I'll grab some towels!" Her mom said hurrying to grab some.
After she got the towels they sat at the table drinking hot tea near the lit lantern. Mrs. Higurashi gave them each some extra clothes to wear and went to hang their uniforms.
"Do you kids need anything?"
"No it's okay mom," Kagome smiled.
As Mrs. Higurashi was watching the rain fall Inuyasha and Kagome kept sipping their tea.
"Inuyasha can I...can I ask a favor?" Kagome wondered.
"What?" he responded.
"I have to babysit a kid tonight for Sango, could you maybe help me?" Kagome asked.
Inuyasha rolled his eyes a little bit and chugged down the rest of his tea,
"Nothing else to do, so sure whatever."Kagome grinned at him.
"But is there any money involved?" Inuyasha asked avoiding eye contact.
Kagome sighed nodding her head, "Yes, yes there is..."
Suddenly the power came back on, the TV screen was on and it was bright in the room. Mrs. Higurashi came back in the living room with a smile.
"Well now that the power is on, I'll dry your clothes in the dryer, then I'll write both of you guys a note to school!" Her mom said happily.
Half an hour later their clothes were dry enough to change in and Mrs. Higurashi wrote notes for them both. Her mom tapped her shoulder handing her the umbrella she forgot.
"I'm sorry we don't have two umbrella's, but I'm sure you could both manage!" Her mom reassured.
They both headed out under the same umbrella back to school, it still kept raining hard outside as they finally approached the school.
Inuyasha pulled at the door,
"It's locked."Kagome and Inuyasha looked up and saw a note taped to the door,
"School closed for Storm.""ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!" Inuyasha and Kagome said in unison.
