Chapter 5: Kitchen Conversation
I ran back into the house.
I saw mom sitting on the kitchen counter, eating a banana.
"Mommy!" I called out.
"Oh my gosh, Jarrett! You're soaking wet! What did you do?!" she reacted with wide eyes.
"Jumped in the pool." I shrugged as if it wasn't a big deal.
She groaned as she grabbed a fluffy blue towel to dry me off.
When she was done, she hoisted me up to the counter.
"Anyways, I've made a friend today." I announced.
"That's great sweetie!" she beamed before taking a bite of her banana.
"Her name's Robin."
Mom nearly choked on the piece of banana she was chewing.
"Her...?" she choked out.
She then cleared her throat and swallowed.
"That's great, hon." she smirked.
I gave her a confused look. "That didn't sound great..."
She hugged me and said, "I'm really glad you're making friends here, honey."
"Thank you, mommy."
