Chapter 31: Valentine's Day
Saturday. It was Saturday and I was stuck at home because I didn't do my homework.
I was sitting on my desk chair with all my books, notes and pens on the desk.
I had turned on my desk lamp already but I haven't used it one bit today.
I've been sitting there for the past half hour, ignoring all my Facebook notifications coming from my laptop.
I groaned. Might as well start my weekend homework... I thought.
I flipped open my history book.
"I can't believe I'm supposed to write a paper on human rights..."
I took out my notebook, which was filled with doodles, and flipped it thoroughly.
Then I stopped at a page with a red heart drawn on it using a red crayon.
Inside the heart said, 5 years ago, you said you liked the hearts on my jammies. So here's a heart for you. Happy Valentine's Day, Jar Head! Love, Robin.
Oh crap! I totally forgot today was Valentine's day!
Wait... Maybe she got the date wrong!
And with that in mind, I grabbed my calendar and saw that today was, indeed, February 14.
Shit.
I ran out of my room and went downstairs.
"I'm going to the garden, ma!" I yelled as I grabbed the garden scissors and gardening gloves.
"Have you finished your homework?" she yelled back.
"It's an emergency!"
"You forgot today was Valentine's day and you need to get Robin something cause she got you something, right?"
Mind-reader much?
"Yeah." I muttered.
So I went to our backyard garden.
I looked around. Nothing really caught my eye until I saw a bush of roses.
I smiled as I made my way to the bush. I put on the gloves and cut off a single rose.
Yes, you heard me, a single rose.

knock knock knock
Robin opened the door.
"Hey." she greeted with a smile. "Happy Valentine's day!"
I smiled as I embraced her into a hug. "Happy Valentine's day, Rob." I whispered in her ear.
She let go and said, "Ready for movie night?"
I nodded.
She smiled as she held my hand and dragged me up to her room.
"Do you wanna watch a chic flick? It is Valentine's day after all." suggested Robin.
"Okay, why not?"
We ended up watching 50 First Dates.
~ 39 minutes later ~
"I need to take a piss, be right back." said Robin, standing up to leave.
After she left, I immediately took out the rose from my pocket.
I found one of her favorite books by John Green (Paper Towns) and opened it to a random page then placed it in between the pages so it'd be flattened.
I closed the book and placed it back on the bookshelf.
You might think, Why would you put it in a book wherein she might not read?
Well, I know she loves that book. And knowing Robin, she will, in fact, re-read it.
Yes, I am that confident.
She came back.
"Okay, well, movie's over and I know you can't stay over because you haven't done your homework yet... so... Bye." said Robin.
I nodded and hugged her goodbye then left. Mom must be so pissed I went to Robin's house without permission.
"H-hey mom." I said nervously as I entered our house.
"Well, where have you been, mister?"
"I... uh... was at Robin's... um... celebrating Valentine's day..." I stuttered.
A smile suddenly appeared on her face. "Oh okay then. Just finish your homework tomorrow."
"Um... okay..."
Well that wasn't weird at all!
Note the sarcasm.
