Chapter 52: The Theme
"Let's split up." said Jane.
I nodded.
We walked around for a few minutes but in end found no Robin.
We sat down on the swings.
"I can't believe Robin isn't here..." I sighed. "I thought for sure she'd be here..."
Jane sighed. "No one said this would be easy..." she said. "So... Tell me more about Robin. Like her likes and dislikes."
"Well she doesn't like it when I call her Rob, that's for sure." I chuckled. "She also doesn't like it when I hang out with other girls."
"Interesting... How about her likes?"
Funny how she was able to respond with a straight face... Then again she's an adult... with no sense of humor.
"Um... she likes the sitcom How I Met Your Mother."
"Ugh, that show sucks."
I laughed. "Yeah, if Robin heard you, she'd beat you to death."
"What else?"
"Um... She'd get arrested for murdering you?"
"No, I meant what else does she like."
"Oh... Um... Oh! She likes books by John Green."
"Oh okay, so-"
"Wait!" I yelled with a new realization.
"What?" she groaned.
"She likes John Green books. John Green." I repeated.
"So?"
"John Green. He wrote Paper Towns."
"You know, I really don't know where you're going with this." she said, rolling her eyes.
"Paper Towns is a story about how Margo ran away and Quentin and his friends had to follow a bunch of clues left by her to find her."
"Um... So you think we should follow a bunch of... clues?"
I stood up.
"The baby swing." I said while staring at the new baby swing.
"Uh... I think you're a little too old for the baby swing, Jarrett."
I ran over to the baby swing and peered in.
Jane peered over my shoulder.
"A note!" I yelled.
Jane grabbed the note away from the inside of the baby swing.
To Stupid, the outside read.
Jane chuckled. "Stupid." she repeated. Then she opened the folded piece of paper.
Congrats Jar Head! You found my note! Frankly I'm glad you found it before some baby sat in the swing and did it's "business". Anywho... I'm leaving today at 4 sharp. So you have until then to find me. Good luck! the inside of the note read.
"Oh... Shit." I cursed. "What time is it, Jane?"
"Um..." she said as she looked down on her watch. "Oh just fucking great, it's 3:30."
"What the fuck?!" I yelled. "We have 30 minutes to find Robin?!"
"Yes, now shut up! We need to concentrate!" Jane yelled.
Suddenly all the kids and their parents looked at us. All eyes on us.
"Maybe I should've thought twice before screaming curse words..." I muttered.
"Ya think?" Jane said, rolling her eyes. "What a pain in the ass." she mumbled to herself.
"Anyway... Now we just need to figure out where Robin went." I said, changing the topic.
...
...
...
"Wait... we found the note in the baby swing." I recalled.
"Yeah, what's up with that, anyway?"
"Swings. That's the theme of all this! Swings!"
"Uh..."
"I KNOW WHERE WE NEED TO GO!" I yelled at the top of my lungs.
I immediately grabbed Jane's arm and dragged her to the car.
"Wait! Where are we going?!" Jane yelled.
"We're going home."
