Chapter 33: 2 AM Chatting
"Hey, Jar Head, guess what." said Robin as she paced around my room.
"What?" I asked, spinning around on my desk chair.
"My mom gave me a cellphone!" she exclaimed happily. "It's a late graduation gift!"
"Woah, really?" I said, putting my foot on the ground to stop spinning. "I don't get it."
"What's not to get?"
"Why get a phone for graduating grade school? It's not like it's hard."
She grinned. "Aww... Is someone jealous?" she cooed in a baby voice.
"Oh shut up." I said. "I'm not jealous. If anything, I'm happy."
"Oh yeah? And why is that?" she scoffed.
"Because the electronics these days controls the children of the future's minds. They're like this addicted little creature with their eyes glued to the screen of their gadgets. Honestly, I'm glad I don't own a gadget whatsoever. And I'm proud."
"Please." she scoffed. "You are jealous out of your your ass!"
I crossed my arms and slumped on my chair. "Whatever..." I muttered.

"Night ma!" I yelled. Mom's room was right across the hall from mine.
"Goodnight sweetheart!" she yelled back.
I tossed and turned, I couldn't fall asleep. I glanced at the digital clock on my bedside table.
1:49 AM
I got out of bed and opened my window which was parallel to Robin's window.
I stared at the window for a while.
It was so peaceful.
Then, suddenly, a saw a flashlight flash through the purple curtain.
"What the...?" I muttered to myself.
The curtains slid over and I saw Robin in her nightgown.
She was shocked to see me. I don't blame her. So was I.
Then she ducked down and jumped back up with a sketchpad and a marker. She started writing something.
I stared at her. I thought that maybe she would ask about why was I still awake or what was I doing staring at her window.
Well, instead, she wrote about her new cellphone.
My new cellphone has a flashlight. Cool, isn't it?
I grabbed a sketchpad and a marker too from my desk.
I wrote and flashed, Yeah, I guess. What are you doing up?
She flipped her sketchpad to the next page and wrote:
What are YOU doing, staring at my window at 2 in the morning?
I was frozen.
She had a point.
I flipped my sketchpad to the next page and wrote, Nothing. But you didn't answer my question.
I'm up discovering interesting shit about my phone.
Woah, I thought you didn't like cursing, stupid?
Eh. Grow up, Jar Head. We're 14 now. We can do whatever we want.
Except have sex.
I saw her laugh a little.
True.
I started writing my next message... But then, she pulled the curtains close.
I stared at the message I wrote.
I love you.
