Chapter 56: Harper's Deep Dark Secret
~ a couple days earlier ~
** Harper's POV **
knock knock knock
I ran to the door to give whoever's knocking at 3 in the morning a piece of my mind.
I twisted the door knob and swung the door open.
"Do you have any idea what tim-" I was cut off upon seeing Robin on my doorstep.
"What's your problem with me?" she asked.
I laughed. "Nothing, honey, you're perfect." I said sarcastically.
Just as I was about to close the door, she stuck her foot out and repeated, "What's your problem with me."
"Why? What's up?" I said, pretending to care.
"Why are you always interfering with me?" she asked with a blank face.
"I dunno." I shrugged. I was gonna close the door again but Robin stuck her foot out. Again.
"Are you in love with Jarrett?" she suddenly ask, out of the blue.
I smirked. "Honey, honey, honey..." I said, giving her the saddest look. "I've always been in love with Jarrett."
"W-what... do you mean...?"
"Oh, you see sweetie, I've always been there for him. Ever since we were 5."
"But I thought you guys became friends in the second grade..."
"Oh, Robin, you see we go way back. When I was 5, my mum was hospitalized in our local hospital. And surprise surprise, Jarrett's dad was hospitalized there too." Harper said. "We met and realized how much we had in common. And that's when I started falling for him."
"But... If you guys were childhood friends, then how come Jarrett didn't recognize you in the first day of second grade?"
"That's because I changed my name. Now when we were 6, my mum and his dad had both died from cancer. Heartbreaking, right? Well that's when he started to get all depressy and stuff. But I was there for him. I made him who he is now."
"Look, I'm really sorry about your mom, Harper. But I can truly say that he doesn't feel the same way! I mean he sees you only as a friend!" Robin debated, trying to look strong.
"Oh, I know. That's why when I finally tell him my real name, he'd be brought back to those times and realize that I'm the only person he could ever love! After all, I'm the only person who understands his pain."
"Getting together because of pain? That's not a reason for two people to get together! The only reason for two people to get together is love! And... and... I love him..." Robin confessed.
"Oh honey, you clearly fell in love with the wrong person. And, FYI, I don't give a damn if we're together for the wrong reasons. As long as we are together."
"Please... Don't ruin his life... He's a good person... He doesn't deserve this..." Robin said, looking at her shoes.
I lifted her chin up and said, "You know if you have such a big problem with it, why don't you just run away?"
Tears were already streaming down her face. She turned her head away and muttered, "Yeah..."
I gave her the brightest smile and wished her good luck as I finally slammed the door shut.
What a bitch.
