“It’s not fair!” I say angrily.
“What’s not fair?” he asked looking shocked.
“You! I can’t lie to you! And it’s not fair!” I shout storming over the wall and hitting it. A tear spray into my eye until they were red and hot, I pushed my arm across my face to wipe them away until I gave in and turned to him. He was looking both shocked, confused and at controversy with himself. “It’s not fair,” I whisper and then sighed. “He was watching us; he’s been watching me Jay. I… I’m scared,” I whisper looking down. He moved forward and embraced me, wrapping his arms around me and bringing me to his bare chest. I stuttered and stammered for a moment before returning the hug.
“You don’t have to lie to me,” he whispered into my hair and I felt his breath against my ear. I started to get goose bumps and a shiver ran down my spine. “He won’t hurt you Arry,” he continued and I shook my head.
“How can you know!” I say back feeling sick to the stomach when I heard the phone ring again. I clutched to Jay as I felt my legs go weak under me. I shook my head and pressed it in closer to his chest feeling my shoulder throb. I looked up at him and he seemed like he half wanted to pick it up and scream threats down to an invisible man, I bet him to it by lunging forward and answered. There was a silence down the line, but I heard his deep mocking breaths. My stomach lurched and I looked to Jay before a voice came down the phone line and to my ear.
“I want to meet you, how about tomorrow at the old park we use to go to.” I opened my mouth unable to reply. Jay reached forward to take the phone and I said,
“No!” quickly and hung up. I ripped it open and took out the sim and the battery before throwing it to the ground with shaky hands. “I’m going to bed,” I say quickly going to turn to the door. Jay blocked me,
“What did he want, Arry tell me what he said.” I shook my head playing the lie again,
“He said nothing!” I say in protest.
“Arry just tell me! I promise I won’t hurt you like he did!” He ended up shouting. I took a step back,
“No!”
“Tell me!”
“NO!”
“Why not!” he shouted and before I could stop myself I found the words coming out. I took a step back in shock and he did the same, it almost looked like a truck had hit him on the freeway. A mixture of confusion, pain and happiness spread through his eyes and he frowned. I went a bright red and turned to get away from his gaze. I went into the box and slammed the door shut before falling to the floor. Why did I just say that! Why!! I felt a waterfall of hot tears stream down my face and I wiped them away angrily. After several deep breaths I calmed myself and stood, walking back into the same room as Jay. I took a deep breath and looked at the floor, not bringing myself to look at him.
“Did you mean… what you said?” he asked quietly and I felt my heart pounding like a horses hooves. Lie, play a character…
“Yes,” I say before I could put my plan into action. “I… I do,” I say feeling my face go red. Maybe he’ll just think it’s your hair. I wished, today my hair had been rather red, a brighter colour than normal and almost like a flame.
“Why didn’t you just say something before?” he said and I heard him come closer, he placed a hand on my good shoulder. I blushed,
“It’s been barely two days Jay. We barely know each-other,” I whisper to my feet. There was a small commotion outside, but before either of us could consider what it was I felt Jay lift my chin and his lips on mine. It took me a moment to register before I could start to kiss him back, my hands on his sides as his hand ran up my back and to through my hair. I heard the door creak open and I pulled away with a sudden shock, everything felt like it hit me with a wall, but I had crashed through it. Suddenly everything felt like it had clicked in the right place. I looked past Jay’s shoulder to see the door close quickly, a stray hand leaving the doorknob. I looked back to Jay and he whispered to me,
“I love you too.” I let a smile spread across my lips and then whispered,
“Are you sure?”
“Very. You’re perfect,” he whispered back pushing a lock of hair away and kissed me again. This time it was more heated and I found myself running my hands over his bare chest giving out a low moan as he stopped.
“Then why are we whispering?” I ask and he laughed. I smiled and he took hold of my hand giving it a light squeeze.
“I don’t know,” he whispered back smiling.
“It’s unnecessary considering it’s soundproof,” I continue looking up at his eyes finally able to stare at them without feeling creepy or ashamed. He smiled and kissed me again, with my free hand I ran my fingers through his hair. Our lips overlapped and I felt their warmth and security within his arms as he pressed me in close to his chest. We pulled away panting and then he pressed forward pushing me to the wall, kissing me harder. I closed my eyes and let out a whimper, “Jay you’re hurting me,” I say then felt a cold hand on my throat. I opened my eye and Ricky was standing holding me up by my throat, we were in a room tainted with blood and I saw a large dog hide on the wall.
“Slow and bloody, just like I promised,” he said holding up a bloody knife. My mind froze as the knifed came closer and closer to my cheek. My shoulder throbbed rhythmically to my heartbeat that was going too fast. It slammed against my rib cage until I felt something wet trail down my stomach, I looked down to see my blood coming from a gash. Then everything went a violent red and then snow was falling down around us. We were on the moors, just out of reach from a rocky outcrop. Ricky was away from me, but gaining quickly. I let out a scream but the wind swallowed it and a thunder clap burst through the dark bruises in the sky. I started to run, but every movement was running through mud and painfully slow. I closed my eyes as I tripped, begging for some type of mercy I had no hope of getting.
Within a flash everything was white, a loud clap of metal crashing on metal made me look up. The car slid and spun in the air, a car’s horn went off and someone screamed. I felt unreal here, like a phantom with fear. The ground was rushing towards us in slow motion and a white flash brought me away, I was running down the hospital hallway. It was cold; my feet bear on the cold floor.
“I have to go,” I whisper to myself, “This world I don’t belong in.”
