smile and slowly fall asleep knowing that I'm completely safe.
____________
I roll out of bed and pull on simple clothes, throwing Rileys sweatshirt over my shoulders. I head out to the car with Anthony and Jazz and drive to school. I slide my backpack straps over my navy blue clothed shoulders, braving the stinging cold weather. I rush into the school doors, trying to escape the frosty chill. I find my friends in our usual place, sitting with them and talking. We head off to our lockers, a fee of us meeting up again to get to homeroom.
We trudge through the day, just wanting it to be over. Finally, the last bell rings and the doors swing open, letting the huge amount of middle schoolers out of their classrooms. We run to the lockers, the only sounds are loud talking and slamming lockers. I turn around to go to Rileys locker, meeting him before we walk to rehearsal, only to see him already standing there. I smile and wrap my arms around him, grabbing my fake leather black jazz shoes from the bottom of my locker, then heading to the auditorium. We walk in and swing our bags off, onto the seats we sit in, then pull on our shoes.
As the few people in the cast who are serious about theatre, we stretch, warm up, eat and get ready for rehearsal. Our directors come in and talk for a while, then talk to us. We listen, then she calls places. We all silently and quickly get into the wings, trying to quiet younger and sometimes older students who continue to talk. We hear the opening music and walk onto stage, already in character.
The whole show blows past me, the choreography so set into my brain that I don't even need to think about the order or movements. I hadn't even realized where we were until I hear the first notes of the bows. I run out, meeting Riley who was running from the opposite side, and bow in the apron of the stage. I walk back into the line of my fellow theatre geeks, and the finale music begins. It's kinda like a big party on stage, the choreography being just freestyle movement and fun. We finally sing the last notes of the show, then all form into small group hugs.
We had completed the show impeccably, and we're all celebrating at our accomplishment. We all sit on the stage and hear the congratulations from our director, then all quickly pull our shoes off and get into our street shoes. I sit with Riley and my friends, since we have a few moments until we're supposed to leave. We all have so much fun, there are so many inside jokes that will never leave that auditorium.
