I walk to my daughter's still figure and sit next to her and pray as well. She looks up and wraps her arms around me.

*Maddie pov*
Anthony walks in, his arm still in a sling. I finish my prayer and hug him, being careful about his shoulder. We sit there for a while until Jazzy comes in and suggests we go get lunch from the cafeteria. I get a chicken Caesar salad and a lemonade. We eat down there, then go back upstairs, the four of us crowding the small room Riley is in. We eventually make it back to Anthony's room for the day.
*time skip, 2 days*
Anthony has been out of the hospital for a day, so spent the night at home while Rileys parents didn't have work. We went back in tge morning. I know I'm missing a few days of school, but im making up my work and I'd rather be here with ry anyway. I look up and see him move his arm at least 3 inches. I jump up, sending my math flying and shout. "He freaking moved his arm! Did you guys see! He's waking up!" I shout and hold his hand.
*hahaha another timeskip, 3 days later (after previous timeskip)*
Anthony has been out of the hospital for about 5 days. The doctors think Riley will be a few more days. He's in fine physical condition to go home, but he's still unconscious. I'm still sitting by his bedside, as i have every day. My legs are crossed, my eyes locked on Riley, scanning for any sign of movement. His fingers begin drumming and his fists balling.
I get excited. This is the most movement I've seen him make. I stand over his bed and watch him slowly open his eyes. I kiss his forehead and he smiles slightly. "You're back! How're you feeling, ry?" I ask, and he looks around a little. "Meh, better than I thought I would, given i was shot like, a day ago." H He says and I look at him. "Babe, it's been 5 days." I say, and hes confused. "5 days? It- really?" He asks, his voice croaking and rough. "Yeah. But, you can go home tomorrow! You'll stay home from school for a few weeks, but I'll take notes and stuff for you." I explain.
*Riley pov*
Maddie explains that I'll be out of school, but she'll take notes and stuff for me. I smile and hug her. "I wrote this stack of notes for you while you were asleep. Open them while you get better." She says, handing me a stack of multi-colored notecards. I pull the one off the top after saying thank you and she goes to get food.
The note is titled when you wake up.
I love you Riley. I don't know if I'll be here when you finally open your eyes, but these notes are a sore substitute if I'm not. I'm so sorry you had this happen, but you're doing great. I love you, so much. I'm so, so sorry. 💜
I read the note over and over and over. I look at her handwriting. It's slightly messy, the letters dragging together like cursive. The small letters took up only half the card, which was stained with tears.
She is adorable. I smile and wait for her to return.
