After the show, we all get changed and head home, getting comfy and watching tv for a while.

It's almost christmas, and we've completely finished blocking and choreography. I find maddie before rehearsal and walk with her to the auditorium. We do a really quick practice, since Christmas is only a week away. Once we've finished, I find maddie, spotting her jump off the stage. "See you later monkey, I've gotta get home. Love you." I say quietly, then pull her into a hug. "Love you too, need a ride?" She says, beaming. "No, I'll be alright. Text me!" I call, walking out and jogging home. Once I've gotten off of the school campus, I sprint home, not wanting to be late.
The glass door swings open and I drop my bag on the floor. "Food will be ready in 15 dad. Sorry I'm late." I say, passing him on the couch. "Ok, thanks." He says, then turns his attention back to the tv. I pull pasta out of the cabinets and cook it in a pan. My dad comes in and happily eats it, then goes back to watch the tv again. I run up the stairs and go over to my bed, grabbing the remote in the way. The tv flickers on and I turn rent on. My phone lights up, so I swipe it off the table and read the screen.
Maddie: u busy tomorrow?
Riley: no, why?
Maddie: wanna hang out?
Riley: sure! I'll come over at like, 9.
Maddie: k, we can go to the theatre.
Riley: cool, see ya
Maddie: bye
I continue watching it, smiling, remembering I was dating a wonderful, self conscious girl who I loved and loved me back. I wish I could help her be more confident, but I had a plan. I knew this year we had a theatre festival, and I asked our director if we could do 21 Chump Street. I was going to tell her tomorrow and we would rehearse the roles. I drift off to sleep not long after that, remembering to set my alarm for the morning.

I wake up and put on some clothes, then walk over to my vanity. I put on plenty of makeup in case we go out, walking over to the couch and hanging out. I hear the door open, and I jump up. He wraps his arms around me and I stand on my tiptoes to reach him. We walk over to the couch and sit down, as I grab the remote. "Hey, you know the theatre festival later this year?" He asks, excitedness edging in his voice. "Yea, I'm really excited, why?" I ask confused, wondering why he brought it up. "We're doing 21 Chump Street!" He says, while I jump up. "Really?! I'm so excited! Are you trying out for Justin?" I say, nearly shouting since I'm so excited.
"Maybe, you're doing Naomi, right?" He says, much calmer than me. "Oh, I don't know." I say, sitting down and putting my hands in my lap. He sighs and gently puts his hand under my chin, lifting my head. "Hey, why not? You're such a great singer." He says softly, hugging me and I smile. We watch tv, him holding me, until Anthony and Jazz are ready to go to the theatre.
We get out of the car and go up to the upstairs room and drop off our homework, then go to Lins dressing room. As I open the door, I hear him talking loudly into his phone. "Periscope?" I ask simply and he nods, then turns to the phone. "Welcome my 'niece' and her boyfriend!" He says, putting air quotes around niece. We walk in and I gently wave to the candle, the spinning comments flying too fast for me to see. "They want you guys to sing!" Lin says excitedly, and I look to riley, both shrugging our shoulders. I hold up one finger and pull Riley into a corner to figure out what to sing.
I kick Lin out of his chair and sit down, putting my head in my hands. Riley walks up behind me and puts his hand on my shoulder. "Lift up your head, wash off your mascara. Here, take my kleenex, wipe that lipstick away." He begins, and I lift my head. "Show me your face clean as the mornin'. I know things were bad but now they're okay. Suddenly Seymour is standing beside you, You don't need no makeup, don't have to pretend. Suddenly Seymour, is here to provide you Sweet understanding, Seymour's your friend." We act out the scene, lin recording us. Riley grabs my hands and we dance a little, then I break away to do my solo.
I sing through the song, and we continue to dance around, leaving out the kiss that normally ends the song. "They want another." Lin says encouragingly, and we look at each other and nod. "You wait, little girl, on an empty stage for fate to turn the light on. Your life, little girl, is an empty page, that men will want to write on..." He says, as we switch roles. Instead of a girl, needing a man to protect her and care for her, who is hesitant because of her past, and a guy trying to help and be there for her, you have an ear girl, trying to date a somewhat shy and nervous boy, who wants to protect her.
I sing and chase Riley around the room, laughing. Again, we leave out the show stopping kiss, but the performance is amazing without it. Laughing, Riley and I say goodbye to the stream, then go up to the old bedroom.
