*an this is a one shot, not part of the story*
My eyes scan over the ever-growing list of colleges that sits on my desk.
Manhattan school of music
Eastman school of music
Juilliard (yeah right)
Philadelphia School of the arts
Temple
Outer Philadelphia Performance College
Boston school of theatre and music
The list grew and grew. I opened a new browser on the Internet and went to the website of each college, beginning to fill out applications. After submitting to my top 7, I took a break. I changed out of my pajamas and into paint stained jeans and an old band tee shirt, pulling socks on after. I sit on the couch and pull out my phone, passing time as I idly think about something to fill my time. A few moments later, the door of our house creaks open and I turn around. Facing me is my boyfriend, Josh. He drops his coat on the rack and reaches me for a hug. "I'm gonna check on Emily and Nathan, I'll be right back." I say, walking towards my younger siblings rooms.
"I'll help!" Josh calls trailing behind me. I open the door to 10 year old Emily's room, nearly tripping over her soccer balls and cleats. "Hey, Em. What's up?" I ask her, sitting on the purple and blue bedspread. "Nothing, but I don't know how I feel about soccer, either." She says, slumping defeatedly next to me. "You don't have to play a sport, you know. I was always in the school musical and I danced. If you want to, go ahead, but don't push yourself too far." I say, running my hand over her back. She smiles up at me, faith freckles that resemble our fathers speckling her cheeks.
*Josh pov*
"Hey, nate! How's it going?" I ask Maddie's 13 year old brother nathan. "Pretty good! How're you doing?" He replies. "Awesome. Can I trust you with a secret, promise you won't tell your sister?" I ask and he chuckles slightly. "Of course, Josh." He says. "I'm taking her out tonight to the place we had our first date. Same booth and everything." I say, smiling, reminiscent of the wonderful, wintry day. "Cool!" He says, then Maddie and Emily poke their heads through the door. "I'm making mac and cheese for lunch, if you want any!" She says and we both stand. We head to the kitchen and eat together, laughing and having fun.
