Tethie is an account home to some amazing Fantasy and Adventure books such as 'Daughter Of The King' which has 983k reads and 'The Curse Of Adelaide' which has 10k reads. It was a pleasure to interview them and here is what they had to say!
Why did you download Wattpad?
Although I am not one who reads Fanfiction, I actually stumbled across Wattpad because I had finished this one TV show and I had it stuck in my head all day. But since I couldn't watch any new episodes I was looking for some good Fanfiction that wasn't too cheesy and that's how I found Wattpad. I instantly fell in love with the website and the stories it offered. I just had to download it.
What is your favourite genre to write in and why?
I love writing fairy tale retellings. I'm a huge fairy tale lover and being able to take one and make it my own is something I love doing. To just take a fairy tale and change it completely, but so that one can still notice the resemblance to the original story.
Which book has been the most fun to write?
I really enjoy writing 'The Curse Of Adelaide' because it's so different from my other works. I usually write about female characters that have a really hard life that made them strong as well as bigger. But Adelaide is the first protagonist who had a pretty 'normal' life and her whole character is just so friendly and sweet. It's a challenge to write in such a character's POV since I'm not used to writing about someone who is all peachy and loving.
How did it feel to hit 100k reads for the first time?
Shocked. Then amazed. And then shocked again. Seriously, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the number of reads on my phone. To be honest, I still feel like it's all just a dream and that I don't have that many reads. But I am so grateful for all of my readers who have supported me for all this time now.
What's the hardest part about writing on Wattpad?
Updating a new chapter on time. I try to update weekly, but it has happened so often in the past that life got in the way as promised. That's the hardest part about writing for me. I always feel bad because I know that my readers depend on me to update. And to disappoint them really gets to me.
What's your personal pet peeve when you're reading books?
Urgh, I have quite a lot, but there is one that really bothers me and as soon as I read that in a book I most likely won't be able to finish it. I absolutely hate it when two people say 'I love you' even though they have been together for like two days. I personally think that in real life you wouldn't just say those words to anyone. Even if I really liked the story, as soon as I read those words and know that they are way too early I can't take the story seriously anymore. It seems so immature to me.
And finally, what advice would you give to a new writer on Wattpad?
Don't wait around for others to stumble upon your books. Read other users' books, leave nice and helpful comments and try to interact as much as possible with other users. The first people who read my book where those, whose book I had read and commented on. If you read books from users that don't have that many reads, they will most likely repay you by taking a look at your book as well. I know that in the first few months I read at least one book from each user who read mine simply because I was grateful that they bothered to even read my book and leave a comment. Plus, by interacting with others you gain new friends. But don't, and I really, really hope you don't do that, don't leave comments in other people's book advertising your book. It's ok if you ask the author through a message, but leaving a comment in someone's book is just something that I feel like is extremely rude.
