lucky_ducky_123 is an account home to some amazing Fanfiction such as 'Redemption' which has 149k reads and 'Sacrifice' which has 96k reads (both Star Wars fanfics). It was amazing to interview them, and this is what they had to say!
What made you start writing on Wattpad?
Well I started writing fan fiction back in middle school and would be too scared to post it anywhere so I would just send emails to my friends of chapters I wrote for her approval. She would be my only reader but her responses gave me the motivation to write more. After I finished sending her chapters of my first fan fiction for Percy Jackson, she recommended that I put it somewhere public. I thought ao3 was too professional for me since I was still an early writer and I didn't like the format of fanfic.net. So I settled on Wattpad because of the simpleness to it and the openness of the readers. I posted my first book, 'Daughter of the Sea', which started slow but has since grown and given me so many online friends. After I stopped being a big reader of Percy Jackson, I abandoned the series and started writing my most popular Star Wars fan fictions.
Where does your inspiration come from?
My inspiration is definitely my imagination, as cliche as that is. I love to envision my writing in my head as this intense drama with twists and turns much like a movie since I'm such a movie buff. Once I imagine a scene, I let my hands do the writing as I enact the scene aloud to make sure it flows naturally and as a interesting part of the story that will work with the plot and keep my readers on their toes. Comments on specific lines of my writing definitely make me smile cause it means each thought I place into my wording means something to the people who read my works. I'm definitely not the best star wars fan fiction writer out there, and there are several fanfic authors that I'd admire as well.
How did it feel to hit 100k for the first time?
I literally called all my friends to tell them. XD I even told my parents, who were pretty proud of me. I write for fun because it's a passion of mine, but to see so many people interested in my writing shocked and flattered me. I have so many readers on Wattpad that are so sweet and I love communicating with so many different people about an area of interest we all have interest in. We all love writing and reading and we can share stories with each other which is great. So to know 100,000 people share that passion is astounding really.
Which book was your favourite to write?
I loved writing all of them! But if I had to pick I'd have to say 'Redemption', because I would stick my headphones in, listen to the Star Wars soundtrack and just type away and leave everyone on these horrible cliffhangers that would leave me with messages of pleads for updates. Plus, I was probably caught up in the high of getting sudden popularity since Redemption is my most read book and has been featured in the Top Fanfics on Wattpad so it was a pretty exciting thing to go through. With Redemption I wrote practically everyday so I got a kick out of that. Sacrifice flowed better since I had had so much fun with Redemption, and my current work Ghost has been a lot of fun as well.
What's the best part about writing on Wattpad?
The people definitely. Everyone is so sweet and supporting of each other with both writing and personal situations. We give each other ideas, writing tips, advice, and we collab with one another...also, when we haven't updated in a while *cough* me *cough*, then we stay patient with each other and offer support and excitement when that next update comes rolling around. But I also love Wattpad's format. I love reading on other fanfic websites, but Wattpad is a great site to write on because of its draft system. I love it and I'm glad I have it.
What's you favourite book on Wattpad?
I don't really read on Wattpad, I read more on ao3, but many of my followers write brilliant stories that I read and enjoy. My favorite is when A/N's mention me or dedicate their stories to me because I inspired them, which always makes me tear up honestly. But I really do love many of the stories on here even if I don't read as much on here.
And finally, what advice would you give to a new writer on Wattpad?
Just because you don't have readers right now does not mean you're a bad writer. I promise. You need to take your time and stay positive. And if, no sorry, WHEN, you story becomes popular, do not get pressured by updates pleas. Write in your own time and enjoy yourself. Writing isn't a burden that you do in your English class, it's a fun experience that links you with other people and drags you into a unique world that's sole creation is at your fingertips. Characters with personalities that you shift and shake. You write how you want and never let hate get you down. I started as a scared first-time writer who only sent emails to my friends without proofreading or caring much for a plot. It was just for fun. Now I gave almost a thousand followers who always look to me for their next fixing of Star Wars adventure in the midst of our fandom's yearly hiatuses. Whether or not your books become famous, you are a great writer and you're only gonna get better as time moves forward.
