illiterate-writer is an amazing account that has written books such as 'The Hunger Games: Prim' which has 183k Reads, and they have 800+ followers. It was really great to interview them, and here is what they had to say!
Why did you start writing on Wattpad?
I found Wattpad back in 2014 through a baking video. It on how to bake an iPhone cake, and one of the apps was Wattpad! It sounded interesting so I stopped watching the video, got on Wattpad, made an account, and have been using it ever since! I had always enjoyed writing in my free time so I started reading and writing around the same time. I enjoy both pretty equally, one of my reasons I love Wattpad :)
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Honestly, I don't have a specific place or person I get my inspiration. I usually just randomly get ideas and start brainstorming from there. I'm a pretty spontaneous person.
What's been your proudest moment on Wattpad?
When I hit 150K reads on my fan fiction <The Hunger Games: Prim>
What's your favourite book on Wattpad?
This is so hard...I've read so many books on Wattpad so far and my "favorite" tends to just be the one I've finished most recently. I really like Eleven O'Clock Number by @defend and have reread it several times - I will never get bored of that book! Also the Wattys 2016 books are all great, my favorites being Heroism by @psykicked and Cupid's Match by @LEPalphreyman
What's the best part about writing on Wattpad?
There are a lot of great things about writing on Wattpad, but personally I love the support the community gives that gives you so much motivation to write more and more, and also that I can share my stories with the world :)
What's the hardest part about writing on Wattpad?
One of the hardest parts is being consistent with uploads. Frankly I'm not the best at it but because there are readers, you feel obliged to upload after a certain amount of time, no matter how busy you are or you have writer's block. However I feel like while this is a struggle, it helps me grow as a writer since I have to challenge myself and work harder.
And finally, what advice would you give to a new writer on Wattpad?
The number one thing I'd say is to write for yourself, and not for other people! You should be writing because it makes you happy, because you love the story, and because you enjoy it. Not simply to get reads, comments, or impress someone, because in the end you're just wasting a ton of words and time. If you don't like an idea, don't feel forced to write it. I've probably scrapped thousands of ideas in my lifetime and I don't regret doing so any time. If you're debating between multiple ideas or if you should really give it a try, find something you'll enjoy writing and stay with the whole novel :)
