Jason’s POV –
“You have first degree burning. It’s minor, nothing like fourth degree. You should consider yourself lucky.” The doctor says to me, I think his name was Anderson. He puts a hand on my back, pushing in so I straighten up.
“What happened?” I asked, still in shock.
“There was a fire at your house. A girl was murdered and burned to death in the process. I figure you tried to rescue her and burned as well.” Dr. Anderson pointed at my forearm.
I looked down, staring at my arm, a large section of it was red, and I ran a hand along it. A short sting came across my body from the touch, the skin felt dry.
“Don’t touch it.” Dr. Anderson grabbed my hand. “I’m giving you some antibiotics and a cream to apply to that every day. It’ll last about week or so.”
I wasn’t paying attention, my eyes never left the sight of my arm.
“I promised….” Is all I could manage to get out.
All that followed after were tears.
I bring my hands up, running them through my hair in anger. Tears running down my face, connecting at my chin. I licked my lips, holding back whimpers.
“…you promised?” Chris was saying from behind me.
I didn’t turn to face him, I simply nodded.
“What does he mean?” Damien whispered to Chris.
“….I told Jazzy I wouldn’t let anything happen to her. And this is what happens.” My voice was breaking from the sobs.
I wiped my face, standing up and facing the house.
“I told her I do certain just to keep her safe. To keep her out of this lifestyle we live in…..” I shake my head turning to face the guys.
“When I find who did this,” I started, licking my lips. I felt shadows growing under my eyes, anger taking over. “I’ll make sure they die a slow and painful death.”
I blinked back into reality. I look around; I was still in the hospital.
I got off the bed I had been sitting on and walked out of the room. Megan, Chris, and Damien were all waiting outside of the room with other people I didn’t recognize.
Megan was the first to stand up, walking over to me, “Are you alright? Did they say how bad the burn was?”
I nodded, lifting up my arm to reveal the burn, “The doctor said it was first degree burning.”
“That’s great. That’ll go away fast. The doctor gave us the antibiotics and cream. We can go now.” Damien stood up from his seat, dusting off his pants.
“No it’s not great. A fire shouldn’t have happened in the first place. I shouldn’t have this burn. Jazzy should be alive.” I shot back at him ignoring his last comment.
“Even if the fire didn’t start, the firefighter said she was apparently shot before-hand.” Damien replied.
I felt my face contort into an expression of pure malice. My eyes flashing a spark of ferocity. I glared at Damien for what seemed like hours, contemplating on whether or not I should rip out his vocal cords.
“Jason he’s right. There was nothing any of us could do. Whoever did it was too smart for us.” Megan put up her hands to defend Damien.
“Are you fucking kidding me right now?” I raised my eyebrows at them. I scoffed, running a hand through my hair and turning to walk out of the hospital.
