This is an AU, so the basic thing for you to folllow is that in 2009, Phil didn't notice Dan and all that. Dan became a youtuber eventually and this would take place in 2017. Phil quit youtube sometime ago.

"Hello everybody, how's your day been?" Dan asked his viewers who were watching him live through YouNow.
"Good, Bad, Terrible, Meh, says some people I couldn't catch the names of," Dan said, and chuckled after. "Man, chat needs to slow down."
kaytho47; how's your day been, Dan?
"Thanks for asking, Kaytho!" Dan exclaimed. "I've been good. I was just watching a lot of older videos on youtube. Isn't it weird how content has changed?"
Dan went on a small rant about how shitty the quality of videos was back in the day, but also how the subject of videos has changed a lot as well. "Look it at this way," Dan said. "Smosh's beginning videos were lipsyncing, and Smosh is one of the biggest channels."

"Sam suggests that I should lipsync to my diss track. Why would the creator lipsync it?" Dan tilted his head and considered it. "You know, maybe I should do that for irony and stuff."
The chat filled up quckly with varying reasons for why Dan should do it. Dan chuckled. "Calm down guys, it's just an idea. Besides, even if I was going to do it, you know that would come out in five months or something."
The chat filled up with comments such as: "True." "#Relatable."
Dan cringed. "Guys, #Relatable is not cool. It's bringing me back to the days of my OMG IM SO RANDOM phase."

Dan read out the comment, actually catching the person's username this time. It took Dan a minute, but then he remembered. "Oh yeah, I remember! Yeah, he was a cool guy."
The chat filled up with things like "OMG!"
Dan shook his head. "It's a shame he quit. I used to watch him all the time."

Dan laughed. "Yes really!" He said in response.
Dan said quietly, as if he was sharing a secret, "He kind of inspired me to start doing YouTube, so. You have him to thank for your monthly content."
See, the joke was, Dan procrastinated a lot and didn't upload often. His fans still loved him though because it was relatable.
