DAY ONE
Phil Lester didn't have friends. Well, he had a few, but he normally didn't count them. He only counted people as friends if they were close friends. So to revise that, Phil didn't have close friends.
And most of the times, Phil liked it better that way. Like this, he wouldn't have to deal with unnecessary drama, and he didn't have to put up with people.
But sometimes, he was overwhelmed by loneliness. Sometimes, he would be sitting in the lunch room at his normal spot, surrounded by friendly people who weren't his friends, and he would realize how he wished he could talk on and on with them.
But he couldn't. Phil was not a social guy, and most people were hard for him to handle. If they were even a bit annoying, he would accidentally flip out on them, and it made himself feel terrible.
No wonder people didn't want to be his friend. He was rude, wasn't he? It's probably what drives them off.
So at lunchtime, he would eat quietly and read from some of his favorite books. The books comforted him and made him feel better.
However, on this particular day, Phil was on the bus, going home, when something peculiar happened.
Somebody sat down next to him. Phil looked up.
Gorgeous.
Brown hair, and brown eyes to match. Kind. He gave off a kind aura. He was even smiling at Phil, and Phil was a bit lost and bewildered.
"Erm.. Hi?" Phil greeted him, with an awkward smile.
The boy laughed quietly at him, and Phil heard it ring in his ears. Gorgeous.
"Hi, so my name is Dan. I saw you at lunch today," the boy explained.
Phil nodded, although still confused. "Oh. Well, did you want something?"
It's sad to say, but that's one of the main reasons people talk to him. And because Phil tries to be kind, and also because he can't say no, he gives them what they want.
Dan exclaimed, "I saw what book you were reading, and I just had to talk to you!"
Phil's eyes widened. "You like Carry On?"
Dan nodded quickly, looking so excited, that Phil couldn't help but aww at it. Not out loud of course. That would be weird.
And so they talked, and continued talking, until the bus made it to Phil's stop.
"See you tomorrow?" Phil asked. Although this seemed great, he didn't want to appear too eager. Besides, who even knew if Dan would want to keep hanging out with him?
But Dan just replied, "If that's okay with you," and Phil was walking home with a smile.
DAY TWO
Phil had never noticed it before, but he had a lot of classes with Dan. But it was expected that he didn't notice. He didn't notice people unless they were irritatingly loud and made it hard for him to read.
But it was nice to know that Phil had a bunch of classes with his new friend.
However, they didn't get time to hang out. When lunch came around, one of Dan's friends whisked him away to the other side of the Cafeteria, so they couldn't talk then either.
For some reason, it made Phil sad.
Why should he be? He doesn't even know Dan, really. Dan is just a nice guy.
