It was an average day for the two boys, and by that, I mean it was an average day of gayness.

They shared loving looks in classes.

And yet, they didn't realize that their love was requited. How stereotypical.

During lunch, Dan dragged Phil off excitedly into an abandoned classroom. While they were speed-walking there (because Dan and Phil do not run. Except for that one time Phil was pranked into thinking Dan sent him nudes. That time he did actually run (to his phone).

Phil looked down at their intertwined hands and blushed. But then he sighed. Of course he had to fall for his straight best friend.

But what Phil didn't know is, Dan was as straight as a circle, meaning he wasn't. (Translation: He was gay as hell.)

When they made it into the classroom, Dan dropped his hand from Phil's, and Phil immediately missed the contact. When Dan turned to him, Phil became nervous.

He didn't want to jump to conclusions... But he had a theory of how this might go.

Dan sighed, running a hand through his straightened hair. It was the only thing about himself he could make straight. He then messed up his hair to the point it was a curly mess.

"Dan," Phil asked, "What are you doing?"

Dan chuckled, "Well, I can't have straight hair."

Phil tilted his head in confusion, "Why not?"

Dan stopped messing with his hair, and looked at him. He said, "Because I'm not straight."

Phil opened his mouth, just to close it. He was in shock. He wanted to say something, anything, but he was just flabbergasted.

Dan laughed at Phil's face, and pointed out, "Dude, I literally confessed to staring at your ass once. How is this a surprise?"

Phil blushed (for embarrassment reasons and that Dan brought that up...). He exclaimed, "I forgot! And I just thought you were into girls!"

"But didn't I also confess to making out with a guy?," Dan asked, smirking at the conversation.

Phil threw his hands up, "I THOUGHT YOU WERE JUST EXPERIMENTING!"

Suddenly the atmosphere changed. Dan cleared his throat. "Well, now that that's out of the way," he said awkwardly. He turned, about to go back to open the door.

"Wait!" Phil exclaimed. He put a hand on Dan's shoulder, feeling the familiar tingles he got when touching his friend. Dan turned and looked at him questionably. Phil shrugged, "I have something to confess to as well."

Dan motioned for him to go on. Phil summoned all the courage he had within himself, and breathed in and out a few times. He started shakily, "On the subject of homosexuality..." He tapped his foot, hoping to calm his nerves. "Well, we both know I'm gay as well. But what we both don't know is that I'm gay for you."

His statement was greeted with silence. Phil could almost imagine the cricket noises. He looked at Dan, and to his astonishment, Dan was smiling. Before he could ask why, he was pulled into a kiss, and he melted into it, grabbing onto him like his life depended on it.

They didn't need to have a talk about how long they liked each other, or all those other typical questions in novels and movies these days. All they cared about was the fact that their love for each other was mutual.

It turned out there was not any unrequited love at all.
