Now Dan is not the grinch or anything, but he's not really looking forward to the holiday that so happens to occur tomorrow. Of course, his friend Phil would say that he's totally lying to himself, but he's really not feeling it.
Christmas just doesn't feel the same now that he's grown up. And by grown up, he means he's a totally rebellious teenager who cries listening to older Fall Out Boy songs. He's the ripe age of sixteen, and it's like his parents don't care much anymore.
When he was younger, they would've started listening to Christmas music and watching classic movies when December rolled around, and it would've gotten him ready for the holiday that was more than just the presents. When he was younger, getting the presents was still the main event, but that wasn't all of it to him.
Now, it probably is the only event, and Dan's pretty sure he's going to get some clothes he doesn't really care for just like last year. If his presents happened to be band shirts from Hot Topic, he wouldn't complain, but his parents wouldn't be caught dead in that place. There's also ordering online, but let's be real, they're not putting that kind of effort in.
He's not feeling the jolly Christmas cheer. All he feels is excitement because he's out of school for like two weeks, but even then it's slightly dulled because his school just had to give him a stupid book to read over break. (They had the nerve to call it a present.)
So, that leaves Dan sitting on the couch next to his parents watching a movie that's supposed to be horror but honestly is too ridiculous to be scary. On Christmas eve. But he's not into it, and he's got his phone out secretly.
dantowell: what's up, rat
PepperMintPhil: i'm watching a rad movie. the polar express has never been better.
dantowell: you changing your username every day is annoying btw. too extra.
PepperMintPhil: shush. anyway, what are you doing?
dantowell: "watching" a movie.
PepperMintPhil: why is it in quotations
dantowell: i'm not watching it
PepperMintPhil: dude,, why,,
dantowell: it's not fun
PepperMintPhil: hm,, do you think your parents would let you come over to my house?
dantowell: probably not. they're not those kind of parents™
PepperMintPhil: too bad. ask, and then we can watch rad movies together
dantowell: (let's be alone together??)
PepperMintPhil: dan you really need to listen to more artists,, not everything is a FOB reference
dantowell: your mom isn't a FOB reference
PepperMintPhil: well i would hope not.
"Can I go over to Phil's house?" Dan asks his mom.
"Why?" she asks, instead of answering the question.
"'Cause he invited me over?" he responds.
His dad nods. "You can go, but make sure you use protection."
Dan feels his gay™ rising, along with his offense. "We're not dating!" he exclaims.
His mom snorts. "Yeah, okay."
Dan stomps out of the house so aggressively, so peeved that his parents are Phan shippers. "They don't even know," he mutters to himself. "They're just,, making claims that aren't true!!"
