Quick Author's note: I'd like to say that I'll probably write a lot of oneshots that are high school AU's, because it's easy for me to write as I'm in school.

----------------------------------------------Phil Lester was frustrated for several reasons.
Number One) He got only about three hours of sleep this morning, and he's very grumpy because of that.
Number Two) His ears were ringing due to the loud music.
Number Three) Dan and him had only come to their school's dance as friends.
And finally, Number Four) Phil has been trying to hint throughout the entire night that he wants this "friends excursion" to be a "romantic excursion." But Dan was oblivious to it all.
That's what annoyed him the most. Dan was smart, and Phil was sure Dan could pick up on flirtatious remarks thrown his way if it was from anybody other than Phil.
It was a logical assumption. Dan had noticed when a quite modest girl (Appearance wise, at least. She wasn't wearing heavy makeup or a skimpy dress.) suggested that the bathroom was only a few minutes away, or that they could maybe find a bush.
Phil had thought that remark was sly, and considering the girl did not wink or showed flirtatious body language, it could've been hard to pick up. But Dan picked that up instantly. (Dan had cooly said to her that he wasn't interested in hiding out in a bathroom or a bush, since he had apparently spent too much time in the closet, as is.)
Dan could pick up on that. But not when Phil had said that he looked ravishing when he saw Dan in his suit for the dance, or that he was honored to see such beauty. Because obviously platonic bros say that all the time.
And not only that, but the songs at the dance were so overplayed and Phil just wished he could close his ears shut and be deaf temporarily.
Dan picked up on his bad mood due to the fact that while Dan was awkwardly at the dance floor at least attempting to dance, Phil was sat by a table in the corner actually on his phone. Now, that was pathetic, and Dan would be a terrible friend if he did nothing about that.
Dan walked over to the corner table and sat with Phil. Phil had not noticed his presence, paying complete attention to his phone, so naturally, Dan snatched his phone and watched as Phil sighed and looked up, finally noticing him.
Phil crossed his arms and almost pouted. Almost. "You should be lucky that you are who you are, Dan. If you were any other person I would probably karate-chop you," Phil said, chuckling after his words caught up to
him. Karate-chopping. Yes, definitely his style.Dan snickered, "And if you were any other person, you would bitch slap someone rather than karate-chop them." They burst out in laughter, because it was so true, and they've always had the same sense of humor.
Suddenly, their laughter died down quickly, as the atmosphere became serious. (Hotline Bling was playing in the background so it wasn't entirely serious.)
Dan sighed loudly and asked him, "Phil, why aren't you having fun?"
Phil mumbled something that sounded suspiciously like "I was having fun before you took my phone."
"No," Dan brought his hands down on the table, making a loud noise. "I'm serious." Dan looked at Phil and frowned, "If you didn't want to come to the dance, you didn't have to come."
Phil became seriously annoyed. Dan just didn't know, and Phil desperately wanted him to.
"Why is it," Phil asked, his fists clenched and his eyes intense, "that you can notice when a random fucking girl hits on you, but you can't notice when I hit on you?"
Dan audibly gulped and shook his head in denial, "What are you talking about, man? You haven't hit on me, so what's your problem?"
Phil exclaimed, throwing his hands up in the air to emphasize the problem, "My problem is that you're over there, oblivious as hell, and my lips are over here!"
Dan stood looking at him, mouth hanging open in his shock. A flush had crept up to his cheeks and neck, and Phil would've definitely payed more attention to that if his entire life did not depend on Dan's response.
His attraction to Dan, romantically and sexually, has always been there through thick and thin. When Phil was having trouble coming into terms with his sexuality and he was in denial, Dan would pop up into his subconscious to remind him that there was no way he was straight.
His entire friendship with Dan led up to this moment. And Dan's reaction to his confession? Shock and silence.
The odds appeared to be not in his favor, but when were they ever? Phil was just relieved he had been able to get the words out.
Dan finally spoke up in a whisper, "I didn't know you felt that way, Phil." Phil sighed, knowing Dan was shortly going to tell him the "i like you, but not in that way" speech.
Phil was preparing himself for rejection when Dan said it. The phrase that changed everything.
"I mean, I thought it was all one-sided this entire time," he said.
Now it was Phil's turn to stare in shock. Dan laughed awkwardly, but quickly cleared his throat. Pointing to the dance floor, he asked him, "Would you like to dance?"
Phil could only nod.
Dan dragged him to the dance floor, and suddenly the music wasn't too loud. Suddenly he wasn't tired. Suddenly he was in a good mood.
It was like God was on their side because as soon as they were at the dance floor, the song switched into a slow dance song.
They started swaying to the beat, and because they're bad at dancing in general, they stepped on each other's feet a lot. But it was them, and the small amount of pain subsided quickly.
When the song ended, they leaned in and kissed. Even though it's cliché, they both felt fireworks going off. It was perfect.
When they finally pulled away, they were greeted with applause from every direction of the room. Everybody's eyes were on them, and it was exciting and great.
All in all, the dance was frustrating at the beginning, but Phil will always hold a fondness towards dances because of it.
