Right now, Phil was happy with his eternal life. While it had been torturous before, he had found a lover who can comfort him in his darkest times. So, for once, everything was great.

He should've known this would happen. Their relationship was a secret, for Phil and his lover were very different from each other. He was a blood sucker, and his lover was a human. But lately, they had been a little careless to cover it up. They loved doing small shows of affection, and sometimes it was something they didn't even realize they were doing.

Phil almost immediately knew when the secret was up. He had felt too many eyes on him for it to be normal. The eyes were piercing into his back as they continued their walk, and Phil just knew this couldn't be good.

Later, as he suspected, he was summoned to the council of the vampire cooperation. The society was well-known and official. If there was anything like a government in the vampiric life, it was this society.

As soon as he was there, an official was yelling at him, others chiming in to show their disapproval.

"What could you possibly be thinking when you started this illegal relationship," The official snarled.

"I thought of love," Phil responded confidently.

The official exclaimed in disbelief, "It's illegal for a human to even know of our existence, and here you are dating one!"

Phil shrugged.

The official got angrier and angrier. He reminded Phil of one of those cartoon people who's faces turn red and steam comes out of their ears.

While he may be thinking funny things, deep down he was terrified. There was no doubt in his mind that there would be a punishment.

And so there was.

A meeting was held, in which they decided what was to be done. When they came out, a different member came out to give Phil the verdict.

"I'm sorry to tell you this, I really am," The member started, but somehow Phil wasn't convinced. He didn't really care. "But if you do not fix and end this relationship and erase everything, that human must die."

Phil shook his head rapidly, a mixture of sadness and anger flowing through his body. "No, I won't allow that!" He yelled.

"I don't make the rules," The member said, dodging the blame. While it was true, Phil couldn't help the murderous thoughts circling in his head. The member walked away then, probably sensing that it wasn't good to be around him at the moment.

Phil thought about it as he made his way to their home, though there wasn't much to think about. There was no way he was letting Dan die. That was just something he couldn't allow.

One day, Dan would die naturally, and Phil had to accept this from the start, but he was not letting him die early. Dan would live a full, long life if Phil had anything to say about it.

Phil knew what the other option was, and that was to erase Dan's memories to the point where Phil no longer existed to him. It pained him to even think about, but this was all he could do.

And maybe it was selfish to want to hold onto him. It had been selfish from the start. Phil knew of all the dangers before getting involved with Dan, but he did it anyways. It's all his fault, and at this point, he figures it's better for Dan to forget him.

He entered their apartment, and settled onto the couch next to him. Dan immediately turned to him and asked worriedly, "Is everything okay? Are we going to be okay?"

It made the pain that had already invaded Phil's thoughts to intensify. He didn't want to lie to him and say it was all okay when it wasn't. "No," he responded simply, and Dan flinched.

"Is there anything we can do?" Dan asked, with a large frown.

"It's not a we thing," Phil interjected. "There's nothing you can do, nothing I can do."

"What's going to happen then?" Dan finally asked, not sure what to say. He knew it was going to be something bad.

"We'll deal with it in the morning," Phil decided. But it wasn't entirely truthful.

Later in the night, after Dan fell asleep with worried and scared thoughts, Phil looked over at him. Maybe he should've told him what he was going to do, but he figured it was too cruel that way, to have Dan know that all of this was going to be gone and only be apart of Phil's memories.

Phil did what he was ordered to do. He erased his memories. It was a hard thing to do, but it had to be done.

He left the apartment after that, taking all of his stuff so it seemed like it was just Dan's apartment. Then he left.

Phil never forgot about him, and even years later, he would still check up on Dan to make sure he was safe and okay now.

But it did hurt a little to see that Dan had moved onto another man, and even that he adopted a child with him. That was something he wished he could've done.

And for once, Phil found himself despising his vampiric heritage. It was the thing that screwed him over, in the end of it all.

But then again, Phil never would have met him without it, so maybe he had to be grateful about that. He'd rather have these memories of Dan than having none at all.
