Phil couldn't believe he had dropped his biggest secret so easily.

Truth is, Phil has never been loved. He has loved, yes, but nobody has ever felt that way about him in return. Everyone was in love with his money or his body, but never him.

After a while, Phil just took what he could get and he would pretend. Late at night, he could pretend that he is loved, especially with someone with him, keeping him company.

But in the morning, he'd only be reminded of how empty he was. Nobody dared to fill the hole left in his heart.

And here was Dan, someone so below him who probably had millions of admirers. He's probably had several boyfriends and several heartaches, but Phil can only keep one.

"Does that change anything?" Phil hissed, his frustration apparent. "What are you going to do? Expose me?"

Dan smiled. "Why would I do that now?"

Phil was beyond confused. "What?"

"Well, I probably would've had this information been revealed to me earlier," Dan said sheepishly. "But that was because I thought you were just an asshole."

"But I am," Phil said. "The fact that I'm lonely doesn't change anything."

Dan considered this. "Yeah, but I don't know. I feel like there's more to it now."

Phil couldn't believe how idiotic he was. Having this kind of information on him could honestly raise his reputation, but Dan was going to keep it a secret?

"And that just changes everything?" Phil snorted. "Oh, woes me. I've got a tragic backstory as to why I'm a major asshole, which means I'm not am asshole."

Dan rolled his eyes. "Now you're just taking the piss."

Phil looked down at the ground briefly, weighing his options. If he didn't stop arguing, Dan would probably just spill the secret. He might as well listen to him.

Looking back up at him, he asked, "So, what do we do now?"

Dan grinned brightly, and Phil's heart skipped a beat. "Ever played Mario Kart?" he asked, passing him a controller.

"No," Phil told him. "But I think I can win against you once I get the hang of it."

"We'll see," Dan remarked, and he turned on the console to play the game.

Hours passed by as the two played the game, and Phil felt happy. After getting a hang of the controls and the idea of the game, he really got into it.

"NO, GET AWAY FROM ME!" Dan screamed, as the blue shell got closer and closer to hitting him. Phil was right behind him in this race, so getting hit would probably cost him the round.

The blue shell hit him, and Dan yelled in anger while Phil practically cackled as he took the lead. Dan couldn't catch up to him quick enough, and Phil won the race.

Phil stood up, cheering loudly. "I told you I could do it!" he exclaimed, pointing at Dan.

Dan laughed fondly. "Yeah, I know."

Phil calmed down after a few minutes and sat back down next to him. "That was fun," he said.

"Yeah," Dan agreed. "I think we'll be good friends now, Phil."

Friends?

Phil could feel the familiar pain of his heart aching. He got too attached again.

But maybe this way he could get Dan to like him and get over his ex.

"I think so too," Phil smiled.

---

It took months, but Phil could finally see the signs of Dan being attracted to him. As soon as he did, he made a move on him.

Dan let him, grinning happily.

They started dating, and around two months in, Dan told him he loved him.

Feeling secure with that knowledge, Phil finally told him the same, when he had been feeling it for the longest time.

Phil was finally loved in return.

Of course with Dan as his boyfriend, he lost his reputation of being a player. Surprisingly, everyone in the town was fairly happy about it.

Phil was the happiest one, though. Everything was perfect.

Phil actually ended up moving out of his humongous house, moving into Dan's instead. He liked how small it was, and he liked leaving behind all the memories associated with the old one.

They finally had their happily ever after.
