Chapter 20 Nothing's Changed

It's so nice to be back here for good. Kung hindi lang siguro ako kinuhang model ni tito sa business nila baka hindi ko na naconvince si dad para pabalikin ako ng Pinas. Whew!

It's been 6 years like what Alex said, and she didn't change at all. Humaba lang siguro ang buhok niya? Tumangkad ng konti. Grew up like everybody else, but she's still the same way back our grade school days. She's still gloomy like before I met her, same old Alex. Even Nicole, still cheerful as always. I missed these two, kahit marami akong friends sa states. Sabi nga nila, babalik at babalik ka pa rin kung saan ka nagmula.

At dahil makulit ako noon, Alex used to be pestered and feel frustrated kapag sumusunod ako sa kanila. If I remember correctly lagi lang silang nasa sulok noon ni Nicole, nanonood lang sa amin kapag naglalaro kami ng mga classmates namin. So I decided to befriend them. They're nice naman after weeks of pangungulit sa kanila. Then we became best friends.

Since sikat na sikat ang Fifi and the Flowertots noon, ginagaya ko siya kapag ina-attempt kong patawanin si Alex dahil lagi lang siyang walang imik. Then on that day, she laughed. Yes, she literally laughed. She was laughing like everybody does, like a normal kid does. For that moment, gumawa ako ng promise sa sarili ko na I will be responsible in making Alex smile always. It was difficult at first, pero noong nakita ko siyang tumawa dahil sa paggaya ko kay Fifi, I got motivated. Kaya nga hindi ko pinapalipas ang isang araw hangga't hindi ko napapatawa si Alex.

But her smiles and laughter stopped when I told them that we'll be moving to the states. She came to the airport to bid us goodbye, I hugged her and nakita ko sa mga mata niya yung sadness. For the first time, may nakita akong emotion sa kanya aside from laughing. Lagi lang siyang poker face noon, but on that time, she looked sad. I also hugged Nicole noon, na umiiyak. I hated to leave, I hated to see Alex on that state, dahil kasabay ng pag-alis namin ni dad noon ang pag-alis din ng ngiti at tawa sa mukha ni Alex.

Good thing I'm back.
