Hospital

I wasn't aware I was in a hospital until I heard the beeping of the heart monitor. I tried to set up but my back wouldn't allow me to go more than a few centimeters. 

"Don't try to move." Edward said from the corner, why did he have bandages? 

"What's with the...." 

"I couldn't have escaped that accident spotless realistically." 

"Is Renee..." 

"In the waiting room? Yes." 

"Is she mad?" 

"Not really more concerned for you...mentally?" 

"Mentally?" 

"She was thinking about mental hospitals all morning. Doctors said the risky behavior was mostly likely a side effect of your father's death." 

"Is Carlisle.." 

"Yes. Everyone's here. Jacob included." 

"Jacob?" 

"When he heard, he..." 

"I want to talk to him." 

"Are you sure?" 

"Yeah." 

Edward left quickly, to quickly to be injured. I waited a few moments before the over grown werewolf entered the room. 

"Bella." 

"Jacob. How have you been?" 

"You're the one laying in a hospital bed I should be asking you that." He smiled and all I could do was smile back. 

"I'm sore but good. I heard....about the..." 

"Yeah." 

"Is everyone okay." 

"I'm Chief now. Sam, Leah, Seth, and Jared....didn't make it." 

I thought about poor young Seth. 

"Oh my gosh, how you holding up?" 

"Alright I guess, there's a lot to running a group of teenage boys." 

"Yeah, Sam deserved some serious respect." 

"Yeah, to late for that now." 

"How's Billy?" 

"Heart attack, it wasn't severe and he's in the hospital." 

"Oh, sounds like you guys had some heavy lost." 

"Yeah." 

"Any humans...." 

"Yep, a lot of them. Usually travelers caught in the fighting. Poor guys." 

"Jacob..." 

"Don't Bella, I should be begging for your forgiveness right now. I messed up, twice, three times actually." 

"How?" 

"I got mad at you for choosing the leech over me, I kissed you, and I killed.....Charlie." 

"Mike didn't seem very vampirish when I talked to him." 

"He came back? I thought he'd be away for a while." 

"It's good to see you Jake." 

"I thought you hated me." 

"I could never hate you Jacob Black." 

He let a yawn out of his huge body. 

"You should get some rest." 

"You're right and I smell leech coming up the stairs. Bye Bells." 

I waved and Jacob left the room. 

Edward came back up with the rest of the Cullens. 

"Bella, we're glad you're okay." Carlisle said. 

"I'm glad to be okay. When can I leave here?" 

"That'll take a little while. You were almost dead when they pulled you out of that car. That was several days ago." 

"Several days? I was out that long?" 

"Yeah, we were all worried." Emmett smiled one of his giant smiles. 

I looked at Edward and he sat still in the corner. 

"He thinks it's his fault." 

"He knows that's not true. How could it be his fault? I killed Ray." 

"Bella...Edward is....madly in love with you. Your problems become his problems and he blames himself every time you get hurt." 

I looked back over at Edward and he caught me eye for two seconds before looking away.
