Chapter Thirteen

After the interview was over, the stylists told us we could keep the clothes. I was happy about that because I really liked the outfit I was wearing.

When we finally arrived at our apartment building, I cautiously opened the door to my apartment in case there was a sight I didn’t want to see with Jessica and Zayn. I opened the door and stuck my head inside, the apartment looked perfectly in order so far. I slowly walked inside and noticed Jessica was sleeping on the couch, alone, with the television on.

I guess Zayn left already. I looked at the clock in the kitchen and it said it was almost noon. Instead of waking her up, I grabbed my Macbook off of the coffee table next to her and sat down at the kitchen bar.

I went to Twitter first; I had been avoiding it for the past two days but it was time to finally face it. The first thing I noticed were some direct messages to me from celebrities congratulating the band and I on our great performance at the VMAs. I started sending out a couple of “thank you” tweets when a particular tweet caught my eye. It was the most recent tweet and it was from Ellen: “Someone got a little defensive when asked who was her One Direction crush.” Under it was a photo of today’s interview of me with my hand around Alex’s mouth to keep him from saying anything. I sent Ellen a tweet back saying that she must love teasing me and that it wasn’t funny.

The next few tweets to me all pretty much said the same message: “Back off of Louis,”

“He is with Eleanor,” “Have some dignity.” Some of them were just so cruel I had to get away from it all. I exited out of my direct messages and was about to sign out when I noticed what was trending on Twitter. Number one in trends was “Rose and Louis.” Hesitantly, I clicked it to dare myself to look and see what people were tweeting. There was a lot of hate, but some people really liked us and wanted us to be together. I still couldn’t get it out of my head of how cruel people were when I read the hate tweets. It’s not like he’s cheating on Eleanor! And it’s not like we are together or anything! We’re just talking, we might just stay friends anyway...

I was looking at a particularly mean post where Louis and I were both tagged in when I heard Jessica’s voice behind me.

“Don’t listen to them Rose. Some people are just jealous of the opportunity you’re getting,” she said and gave me a hug from behind. I hadn’t even realized my eyes had formed tears until she gave me a tissue. I wiped away my tears and went to go retrieve my phone from my purse.

I already had a text message from Louis that was sent twenty minutes prior to now.

“Hey. Are you ready to go see a movie today? Txt me when you want me to leave and come get you.”

Wow, I had completely forgotten about our plans to see a movie today. I was so absorbed with thoughts about the interview and twitter, I forgot about the plans I had made for the rest of the day.

“What’s wrong?” Jessica asked me when she noticed my confused expression.

“Nothing, well, maybe. I mean. I don’t know. Louis asked me to hang out today but I forgot and now that I’ve seen all of this hate on me and him I don’t think I can feign happiness around him like nothing is wrong. It’s too early to have these kinds of problems,” I sighed when I finished speaking.

“Those girls hating of you are insecure stupid hoes and if you give up on Louis now you’re only giving them satisfaction. Smile. Be happy. Be your happy self. Do what makes you happy, not what everybody else wants you to do. Now, do you think you and Louis could have a chance to be happy together?” Jessica asked me.
