CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT
We all piled into the elevator. I was grateful that the hospital had a big enough elevator to fit eleven of us with me in the wheelchair. Being in the wheelchair probably made everyone else squished together, but I think we were all just happy that we were together.
When the elevator opened its door to the lobby, Louis pushed me out first followed by everyone else.
“Ready love?” Louis whispered in my ear.
“As ready as I’ll ever be,” I said and he pushed me outside. Immediately, I was being blinded by many flashing lights. Luckily, the hospital or someone had made a path for all of us to walk out on so that we didn’t have to fight our way out. The paparazzi were all behind ropes. I heard many people scream “Rose” or “Look this way” but I kept my head down the entire time.
“Um, how are we getting to the hotel? Or to wherever we are going?” I asked scared.
“We’re taking the car,” Liam said and then looked down and saw my scared expression.
“Shit we didn’t even think about that,” Louis cursed.
“We don’t have any other options,” I pointed out. I really was scared to get into a car again. But if we walked to the hotel, the paparazzi would trample us. Oh well, I had to get in a car eventually and I guess there is no way to avoid it.
“I’m so sorry Rose,” Louis said apologetically.
“Don’t be. This had to happen eventually,” I said honestly.
“I just wish it didn’t have to happen so soon,” Louis sighed.
Just then a long black Chevrolet Express van pulled up in front of all of us. A man got out of the van and handed the keys to Liam. He must be driving it.
“How many does it sit?” I asked Louis when we all stopped in front of the van.
“Eleven exactly. So we will all fit. Liam is driving,” Louis informed me and I nodded. Flashes from the cameras were still going off everywhere and I was trying to avoid staring in the direction they were in.
“Ok it is all settled. I’m driving. Let me open the door for you Rose,” Liam sat as he opened the door to the backseat.
“I’m going in first? I think I should be last,” I said and Liam nodded in understanding.
“Good idea. Ok three people go in the very back,” Liam ordered and Harry, Niall, and Melissa all got in the car. “Now three more people,” he said as Jessica, Zayn, and Nate all got in next. “Now it’s just Rose, Louis, and Alex in the first row of the backseats. Perfect. Now go and get in.”
“I’ll go first,” Alex said as he got inside.
“Rose I’m going to carry you in ok? Liam is going to take the wheelchair back,” Louis told me and I nodded. He bent down and put one arm under my legs and he slowly moved my bad arm around his head, as I winced in pain, before gently lifting me up. The paparazzi were shouting like crazy at the both of us, but we paid them no attention. Louis gently sat me on the chair and buckled my seatbelt before he got in his seat, closed the door, and did the same. Danielle was in the passenger seat in the front and Liam was just now entering the car.
“Ok we are driving to the arena we are performing at tonight. Are you sure you want to do this Rose?” Liam said as he looked at me through the rearview mirror.
“Positive,” I tried to say confidently.
Liam nodded and started driving away. We arrived at the venue about an hour later, making it about five o’clock.
