CHAPTER TWENTYONE

I woke up to the sound of Zenon barking. It startled me out of my deep sleep. I looked at my owl alarm clock next to my bed and it said it was ten in the morning. I sighed and sat up to see where Zenon was.

She was at my bedroom door just barking. I couldn’t hear anything odd so I grabbed my glasses off of the dresser and got out of bed to walk over to the door.

“What is it Zenon?” I asked her as I opened the door and I saw what could've caused the commotion.

Outside of my bedroom there was balloons everywhere. And I mean everywhere. There wasn’t any walking space. There was a variety of balloons in every size and every color. Saying stuff  like “Happy Birthday!” or “Man you’re old,” or “Feliz Cumpleanos.”

“Hello?” I said aloud while trying to find my way through all of the balloon strings.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROSE!” Jessica said as she came out of nowhere and gave me a hug. “I LOVE YOU BEST FRIEND! NOW YOU’RE LEGAL!!”

“I love you too Jess. Thanks. And yes I am! Finally!” I said enthusiastically.

“Go get ready! We have to drive to Vegas to go indoor skydiving and be there by 1:00 PM!! The guys will be here in twenty minutes!” Jessica said while jumping up and down excitedly.

“Wait what! Why didn’t you wake me up earlier? I don’t have enough time to get ready!” I said while frantically running towards my room to find some clothes to wear.

“Just shower real quick and braid your hair. But before you go I want to show you your present!” Jessica said as she pulled me closer into my closet. “Are you ready?”

“I guess,” I said nervously.

She pushed the hangers of my clothes aside and I saw a little door appear.

“What the hell is that?” I said as she opened it and bent down to walk inside.

“Just follow me. Trust me,” she said and I sighed and bent down to follow her inside wherever she was going.

Inside of the door was a small room with a couch and a television. I could stand up straight all of the way. Behind the couch on the wall, there was red painting that spelled out “The Chamber of Rose’s Secrets.”

“What is this? How did you even do this?” I asked incredulous. How did she pull this off?

“This is what I’ve been working on while you’ve been recording the album and I stayed here alone. I wanted to build you a little escape room in case someone ever came into the apartment and you needed to hide. I bought out the apartment next to us to be able to build this. Since you hardly ever go into your closet, you didn’t even notice what I was doing secretly. Happy Birthday Rose!” Jessica said while observing the expression on my face.

“Jess. Wow. This is totally unique and creative. Just like you. I can’t believe it. Thank you. How long did it take you to make this?” I asked curiously.

“About a month. Almost everyday that you were at the studio without me, I was working on this,” she beamed.

“Thank you,” I said and gave her a tight hug.

“You’re welcome. I love you best friend,” Jessica said as she returned my hug.

“I love you too,” I said in awe as we broke apart. I still can’t believe she did this for me. It was so surreal.

“Now go get ready. You only have fifteen minutes. I’ll go take Zenon for a quick walk. Go shower! You don’t want to stink for Louis,” Jessica said and laughed.
