#66 Broken Bones and Hospital Visits

Today , our 13 year old son, Ethan, has a football game that me and Niall are going to. We are bringing our 6 year old son ,Luke ,along with us too as he enjoys watching and playing football. Niall's mum, Maura, is going to look after our 1 year old daughter, Aaliyah, as a football stadium isn't a good place for a cranky baby.

"You ready for the match son?" Niall asked ruffling Ethan's brown hair which was in a quiff.
"Daddd ! You ruined my hair!" Ethan complained trying to fix it.
"Oh suck it up lad, I doubt there'll be any 13 year old girls at a football game" He said teasing his son slightly who had gone red.
"Leave him alone Nialler" I said.

Our youngest son , Luke, came running down the stairs.
He was wearing his personalised football kit since he always does when we go to football matches.

Niall, Ethan and Luke all have matching personalised kits. They had a blue shirt with Horan printed on the back and white shorts with blue football socks and Ethan and Luke had blue football boots. Niall didn't have football boots since he only played football with the boys and Ethan and Luke .
Niall was number 1, Ethan was number 2 and Luke was number 3.

Niall picked Aaliyah up from her swing in the doorway.
"You ready to go to Grandmas?" He asked in a baby voice. Aaliyah nodded and squeeled.
"Dadda!" She giggled touching his hair which was now completely brown as he stopped dying it blonde once the band went on hiatus almost 9 years ago.

We got all the kids in the car and began the drive to Mauras.

"You two stay there, we will be a minute" I told the boys as Niall and I got out the car, Niall picking Aaliyah up and me getting her nappy bag.

We walked up to the door and Niall walked in with me following.
Maura greeted us both with hugs and kisses on the cheek.

Niall handed Aaliyah to Maura.
"Grandma!" She cheered happily and clapped her hands.
I put her nappy bag on the sofa.
"She hasn't had dinner yet so there's baby food in the bag and she usually has some formula with her meals so her formula and bottles are in there as well as nappies and baby wipes" I told Maura who nodded.
We were about to leave but Niall quickly remembered
something.
"There is also some cream in there because she has a nappy rash so if you change her nappy put it on her" he told his mum who nodded.

We arrived at the football stadium where our son played. He played professionally, for the Derby County under 14's.

We waved goodbye to Ethan as he went to where his team would be and we found our seats at the front near the pitch.

"Go on Ethan!" Luke yelled as Ethan was running up the pitch towards the goal with the ball.
Ethan kicked the ball and it went into the goal.
"Yes! That's my boy!" Niall yelled proudly as we all cheered.

Ethan had the ball once again and was making his way up the pitch again when someone from the over team tackled him from the side making them both fall.

However,Ethan didn't get up.
Niall and I both exchanged worried looks.

One of the paramedics came to us as the others were looking at Ethan and helping him.

"Your son is injured and we suspect it is a broken leg, so we suggest one of you goes in the ambulance with him" they explained and we nodded.
"You go with him, I'll bring Luke" I told Niall and he nodded giving me the keys to his Range Rover.

We arrived at the hospital and I helped Luke out of the car.
We walked into the hospital and saw Niall . I followed him into a room where Ethan was getting his cast on.

He looked like he was in a a lot of pain.
"Hey baby, you okay?" I asked running a hand through my eldests hair.
"Yeah, it just hurts" He mumbled.

They finished putting the cast on and gave him some crutches.
"This will stay on for around 6 weeks, and you need to try to not put pressure on it and you will need to cover the cast when bathing or showering and you probably will need help to do those" The doctor explained.

"How do I have a bath or a shower?" Ethan asked hopping through the house on his crutches.
"You cover the cast with plastic bags and then me or your mum will have to help you get in and out" Niall told him.
He looks mortified , he didn't listen to a word the doctors said.
"But I'll be naked!" He exclaimed.

Niall shrugged.
"Why's that matter?" He asked not understanding his problem.
"We bathed you all the time up until you was about 7" he added.
"Just no! I'll wear swimming shorts" he said going to the kitchen with his crutches.

"I don't really understand the fuss" He admitted.
"Ni, he's 13, he's a teenager , teenage boys go through changes" I told him.
"Ohhhhh yeah" He said feeling like and idiot.

There was a knock on the door which must be Maura and Aaliyah.
I opened the door and took Aaliyah from Maura and invited her in.

"What happened?" She asked.
Ethan came back in with his crutches.
"I broke my leg" he said as if it was nothing.
"You're just like your dad, always hurting yourself" she commented.
"Hey!" Niall said.

"Where Luke?" Maura asked.
"Luke! Come say Hi to the old lady!" Niall yelled upstairs teasing his mum.
Maura hit him on the head which he didn't expect.
"Just because you're 32 doesn't mean I can't give you a slap for being bad" She Warned.

Luke came downstairs.
"Okay, Luke say hi to the old lady that looks very young" Niall said.
"Niall James Horan! I am not old! Just wait until these 3 start calling you old!" Maura said.
"Ethan and Luke do, Aaliyah doesn't know what it means" He said and Maura rolled her eyes.
"Hey grandma!" Luke said.
"Hi sweetie!" Maura said kissing his cheek.
"You treat them better than me and I'm your son!" Niall said.
I love the relationship Maura and Niall have.

"Aww Nialler, are you jealous,do you want a kiss from mummy?" Maura teased and gave Niall's cheek a big kiss and then ruffling his hair.
"Yeah I am jealous! My kids get better treatment than me" He chuckled.

"Aww baby don't worry, you and Greg are still my favourite boys" She said laughing.
"I applaud you for coping with my son for the past 17 years and making him your husband!" Maura said to me and I chuckled.
"It's been hard but I've managed!" I teased.
"You're all so mean!" Niall said.
"I love you though" I said.
"I love you too but sometimes I'm sure you , mum and the boys gang up on me, there's only my little princess that doesn't" he said picking Aaliyah up.
We all laughed, I couldn't have a better family.
