Flashback

'I can't take this anymore.' I whispered to myself, gripping my hair with one hand 'I can't last any longer in this house. I can't stand waking up another day, when the only thing to look forward to is beatings and the worry of losing everything!'

I glanced at the picture frame on my bedside table, which held a photo of Luke, Laura and I playing in a sandpit. It was one of the few times Mom actually got us out of the house and away from father. We looked so happy back then. And now look at us... One had to grow up way faster than he should've. One snapped and lost all her sanity. And one was to suffer for something that wasn't in her control.

'Maybe this is my fault...' I clenched my jaw 'Laura's getting worse each day, and Luke's becoming too paranoid to leave me on my own...'

I trailed off as my eyes caught sight of my black backpack hanging on my door. I shook my head to dismissal, but the thought kept coming to me.

'It would be better for everyone if I just disappeared...'

Making a decision, I packed my bag full of things I would need, including extra clothing, a water bottle and a pocket knife. You'll never know when you'll need one to defend yourself. I then changed out of my pajamas and stuffed them in too, before changing into my black hoodie, yellow t-shirt and blue jeans. I laced up my red trainers and slung my backpack over my shoulder, before leaving my bedroom. Forever...

I stopped in front of my siblings' room; they shared because Luke didn't want Laura attacking me at night. With a deep breath I pushed it open, as it was already cracked, and entered as silently as possible.

Princess, who was laying down on the rug lifted her head when she heard me. She tilted her head as I placed a finger to my lips and shushed her, before kneeling down in front of her and hugging her tightly.

'I'm sorry, girl... I have to leave for awhile.'

She made a whimpering noise as she rubbed her face against my hair.

'It's better this way, trust me. I'll miss all of you...'

I kissed her snout softly, and she returned by licking the tip of my nose. I smiled softly, before standing and walking over to my brother's bed. I knelt down and began combing my fingers through his hair.

'Thank you for always being there for me, Luke... you are the bestest brother I could ever ask for.' I whispered, feeling my eyes tear up 'I just wish I wasn't such a burden to you. Take care of Laura and Princess for me, as well as yourself, and please don't worry about me anymore.'

'Meg...' Luke's eyes cracked open as he gently grabbed my hand, caressing it with his thumb.

I choked slightly 'I love you, big brother...'

'I love you too...'

I leaned over, kissing his forehead lightly before pulling out of his reach. He seemed to have noticed I was gone, as his eyes fully shut and he once again fell asleep.

Taking a deep breath I walked over to Laura's bed, looking down at her with caution. She didn't look peaceful, I could tell. In fact, she seemed to be whimpering slightly. I gulped, before going back on my gut feeling and reaching down to run my fingers across her hair.

I bit back a yelp as a hand grabbed my wrist. Laura's hand. She opened one eye and stared directly at me.

'I... uhm...'

'I know what you want to do.' She whispered.

My breath hitched. F*ck, that's it. The end of the line.
